Government agencies and the media are to be blamed for the sorry state of Kenyan music. While the media is playing more foreign content, government agencies are denying musicians their\u00a0royalties.<\/p>\n

Nonini served as the\u00a0board chairman of\u00a0Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) until August 8th when he resigned following internal wrangles.<\/p>\n

The rapper highlighted the rot that has crippled several government agencies –\u00a0MPAKE\/KAMP\/PRISK\/MCSK\u00a0 mandated with\u00a0collecting royalties.<\/p>\n

More trouble<\/h5>\n

Nonini and several other musicians are now up in arms against\u00a0Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) which provide license to all these other bodies –\u00a0MPAKE\/KAMP\/PRISK\/MCSK.<\/p>\n

Nonini says KECOBO has provided license to Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) even after court found them guilty of\u00a0embezzling funds. The music body has failed to pay musicians since 2017.<\/p>\n

“MCSK was deregistered in 2017 because they collected money and did not pay artists. In 2017 and 2018 they continued to collect illegally and not paying artists, further the court found them guilty and ordered kecobo to take action. Instead of kecobo taking action, they have gone ahead to license the same organisation which has not paid any artist from 2017,” said Nonini in part.<\/p>\n
