{"id":93502,"date":"2019-02-15T18:52:15","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T15:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.com\/ke\/?p=93502"},"modified":"2019-03-03T19:24:19","modified_gmt":"2019-03-03T16:24:19","slug":"artist-spotlight-mbithi-a-musican-way-ahead-of-his-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/artist-spotlight-mbithi-a-musican-way-ahead-of-his-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Artist Spotlight: Mbithi, a musician who&#8217;s way ahead of his time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If at all there&#8217;s a versatile musician in Kenya, then it has to be Mbithi the Kamba boy.<\/p>\n<p>The first time I listened to any of his songs was in August 2018 when the deejay at my local pub decided to cue up <em>Msichana Mmoja<\/em>, a song he had done with K3hmboi, on his fire playlist.<\/p>\n<p>Pass my greetings to DJ Bash please.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MBITHI x K3HMBOI- MSICHANA MMOJA (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TBDRyAKSwlI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I remember being hooked to the song so much so that I plugged in my earphones and put it on replay on <a href=\"https:\/\/m.soundcloud.com\/jopeethechef\/mbithi-x-k3hmboi-msichana-mmoja\">SoundCloud<\/a> for the the part of the night.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, what&#8217;s the point of hassling a deejay to repeat a song when you can access it?<\/p>\n<p>I later came across <em>Round 2<\/em>, another collaboration he had released with King Kaka.<\/p>\n<p>In this song, Mbithi delivers heavy punches in his local Kamba language.<\/p>\n<p>Although I could not understand a thing, I found myself shaking my head a couple of times because of good rap flow.<\/p>\n<p>When it&#8217;s good, it&#8217;s good fam!<\/p>\n<p>Much later, I realized that <em>Round 2<\/em> was much older than<em> Msichana Mmoja<\/em> and wondered for a bit where I had been all my life.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"King Kaka - Round 2 Ft Mbithi (Official Music Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ttm0Hwrm0us?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After listening to other songs by him, including his latest release with Charisma dubbed <em><a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=qeNCLWJIc54\">Unavyonipenda<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>it has become even more evident that the new kid on the block is not here to play.<\/p>\n<p>Watch out for Mbithi, an artist whom you&#8217;ll find singing today and rapping tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If at all there&#8217;s a versatile musician in Kenya, then it has to be Mbithi the Kamba boy.
