Kenya Met Department Predicts Cloudy Mornings & Scattered Showers

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather forecast for the period of September 19 to September 22, warning that most parts of the country, including Nairobi, will experience continuous cloudy mornings.

The department’s notice indicates that showers and thunderstorms are expected in several regions, including the highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Coast.

Regional Forecast Breakdown

  • Nairobi and Highland East of the Rift Valley: Residents can expect cloudy mornings that will clear up into sunny afternoons, with a chance of occasional showers. Temperatures will range from a cool 6°C at night to a warm 30°C during the day.
  • Western Highlands and Lake Victoria Basin: This area is predicted to have morning rains and afternoon thunderstorms throughout the week. Temperatures will range between 9°C at night and 31°C during the day.
  • Coastal Region and South-Eastern Lowlands: These regions will experience strong winds from the South and Southeast, with speeds exceeding 25 knots. Coastal areas like Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale are also likely to see showers in both the morning and afternoon, with a steady temperature of around 31°C.
  • Northern and Eastern Kenya: Turkana and Samburu will be mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching up to 37°C. Similarly, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will remain hot and dry, with highs of 38°C. A few showers are possible toward the weekend in these areas. Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado will also be sunny with a chance of scattered showers.

The department has urged residents in storm-prone areas to stay vigilant and follow daily forecasts from their respective county meteorological offices.
