“Kenyans Reading Celebrity Tweets”: The Video That Offended Many Kenyans

It was a weekend where Kenyans got together to support their rugby team and hate on Jimmy Kimmel, the American late night show host.

Jimmy Kimmel Live is fond of getting the unlikeliest of people to read tweets: from grandma’s reading Kanye’s tweets, toddlers reading 50 Cent’s tweets to celebrities reading offensive tweets about themselves. Now the comedian has come up with Kenyans Reading Celebrity Tweets.

Maybe what #KenyansOnTwitter–who are known to be very vocal–found offensive was this kinda misleading statement he used to introduce the skit.

I have a friend who started a great charity organization called CTC International. They help people in Kenya: they educate them, build schools, medical centers, farms. But what they don’t have there is Twitter. Internet penetration access is very limited. So, we decided to get them involved the old-fashioned way through verbal communication. And with that said, I give you Kenyans Reading Celebrity Tweets.”

The video itself, I thought was amusing but not as funny as the other ones in the tweet series, but it’s kinda understandable why some people would still get upset over it. It’s comedy but kinda stings. See “rural” Kenyans Reading Celebrity Tweets below.
