Kenya’s YouTube Challenger Launched
Following the launch of the localized YouTube Kenya site late last year, Kenya now has a web and mobile video site which it can call its very own.
Buni TV launched yesterday morning at the iHub Nairobi, introducing two amazing platforms, www.buni.tv and m.buni.tv , on which purely African videos would be shown. The types of videos to be displayed on the site include African music videos, African animation videos, African films and documentaries… I think you get the ‘African’ drift.
The videos to be shown on the site would of course have to be of top quality as contributors to the webpage would be exposed to the international market to promote their work.
Buni Media, the creators of the very popular XYZ Show, also announced that Buni TV would feature the entire five season episodes of XYZ as well as animation products Wageuzi and The Legend of the Ngong Hills (which is in the running for an AMAA Award).

Marie Lora Mungai, the CEO of Buni TV said:
“Buni TV has been developed by filmmakers for filmmakers and film lovers. We know what it means to be independent creators. In Africa like everywhere else, distribution is a major challenge: how to find the right audience for your work, how to get your work in front of that audience, and how to generate revenue from that audience. We’ve built Buni TV to provide a solution to that problem.”

Other content to be included on the channel includes film trailers and the perennially ‘hard to find’ information and video content on African productions. With the introduction of more advertisers, Buni TV will turn to a subscription basis with premium content.
