Meet The Gospel Artiste Who Is Taking The Industry By Storm After Years As An Internally Displaced Person (IDP)

His story is encouraging. His life has not been that easy. His humble beginnings tell it all. His background is not one you can admire. But despite all this, he managed to vend for himself amid difficult times and challenging situations.

Handsam, is his stage name. Born and raised in Kericho-Mjini village, Handsam is the first born in a family of six.

He is a victim of the 2007 post election violence who, unfortunately lost his father in the skirmishes that rocked this country and subsequently became an internally displaced person (IDP) in Nakuru where his mother and siblings ran for their dear lives.

For a year or so, he found live so hard under no roof and had to scour through the streets of Nakuru town as a cart pusher to earn something for his family. As a first born, this was so challenging.

His day’s pay was just 100 shillings, which he shrewdly shared with his family for food.

A year later, a good Samaritan came his way and offered a job worth 4000 shillings a month. HAndsam says this helped him feed his family. His break-through came when he recorded songs with his church and that is how his exposure came about.

He went on to release his first album, which after listening to you will nod your head in content.

Handsam is still going strongly and Ghafla Kenya exclusively caught up with him and this is his first song:
