Nadia Mukami Claims She Has Never Received Money From MCSK

Kenyan pop artist Nadia Mukami has expressed concerns about the non-payment of royalties from the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). She shared her disappointment on social media, following a lack of transparency surrounding the distribution of funds collected by the organization.

Mukami states that she has not received any royalties from MCSK since officially registering as a member in 2017.

Despite the popularity of her works, both within Kenya and internationally, she has not received any financial compensation from the organization.

This includes her AFRIMMA award-winning song, further highlighting the disparity between her success and lack of royalty payments.

MCSK’s Accountable Actions

The organization recently faced scrutiny for failing to provide a clear account of the 56 million Kenyan shillings collected from artists’ works in 2023.

This led to the case being handed over to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further investigation.
