Speaking on the Woman’s Journal Podcast, she revealed, “What many may not know is that he was like a real father to me. He was also my mentor.”

She recalled how he always encouraged her to prioritize family.

During the televised burial, Papa Shirandula’s widow, Beatrice Andega, shared the heartbreaking events leading to his death. She recounted how he returned home after being away for work, complaining of chills and feeling unwell. Concerned, she urged him to visit the hospital for tests for pneumonia, malaria, and Covid-19.

“You have been in cold weather for a long time, go to the hospital and get a test for pneumonia and malaria. I told him to also get tested for Covid-19 because ‘you are mingling with too many people.’ Make sure there are three tests,’” she recalled.

He agreed, but at the local hospital, only a Covid-19 test was conducted, with results released two days later. By Friday, his health had deteriorated, and he was struggling to breathe. Beatrice rushed him to the hospital on Saturday morning.

“…At the hospital, admission was just another process. I kept telling them, ‘Please, he needs support; this is an emergency.’ While they were still preparing, he passed away in the car, right beside me. He wasn’t even admitted,” she painfully recounted.

Papa Shirandula was not only a beloved actor but also a mentor to many, including Kawira, Njoro, Naliaka, Wilbroda, and Jackie Vike, popularly known as Awinja.

Beyond his work in television, he also left a mark in advertising, most notably through his iconic Coca-Cola commercial.

He continues to be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fans.
