Financial Times <\/em>reports that Davido’s dad’s nerve was only finally calmed after the hit, Dami Duro becam the biggest in Africa. Davido mad this known in an interview with Financial times where he revealed that his dad went as far as arresting people seen with him on any billboard.<\/p>\n Excerpts from the interview below.<\/p>\n My dad didn\u2019t like me doing music!\u201d laughs Davido. \u201cIf he saw my face on a billboard, he\u2019d arrest everybody at that show! But when I made the song \u2018Dami Duro\u2019 [2011], it became the biggest track in Africa; it\u2019s saying: \u2018I\u2019m the son of a rich man, you can\u2019t stop me, and people love me.\u2019 It now feels good for dad to see that music can take me this far.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The singer described his music thus;<\/p>\n \u201cIn Nigeria, we all mix sounds together and collaborate; it\u2019s natural,\u201d <\/em>He said. <\/em>He described his music as\u00a0\u201cafrofusion\u201d, with elements including hip-hop, Ghanaian high life, South African kwaito, and R&B. \u201cIt\u2019s been generalised as afrobeats, but I have songs that sound like afropop, afrotrap . . . \u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Asked about how Afrobeats has inspired the works of international stars like Drake and Beyonce and why the western mainstream is just being awakened, OBO said;<\/p>\n It\u2019s the internet and social media,\u201d<\/p>\n I\u2019m telling you, Nigerian people have a supportive force, and an amazing energy. Beyonc\u00e9 and Kanye felt it on their visits, but Nigeria has always been very big on entertainment; when I was little, a big artist would come over to play every Christmas.<\/p>\n Now the music industry in Nigeria is like a government ministry; it\u2019s worth billions.
