Nicki Minaj sued for copyright infringement

Nicki Minaj is being sued for sampling Tracy Chapman’s song without permission.

Chapman therefore filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in a Los Angeles federal court. She says that Nicki’s unreleased song Sorry, incorporates the lyrics and vocal melody from her 1988 song, Baby Can I Hold You.

Nicki’s representatives have not responded to emails seeking comment.

Chapman is thus suing for unspecified damages and wants Nicki prevented from releasing Sorry commercially.
