Opinion: What’s Next For Vincent Ateya After Quiting Milele FM
Someone once told me that good things don’t last. Indeed they rarely do. And when they do they may end up destroying the good legacy they have built for so long a time.
As exclusively reported by Ghafla Kenya, Milele FM’s VINCENT ATEYA tendered his resignation letter last evening in what he termed as looking for fresh, new challenges everywhere.
New challenges indeed. After years on radio, he surely needs a new challenge.
The Aquinas High School alumnus has been a common figure on our radios for so long a time. Remember the days when he made Radio Citizen listenable? The days when he masterminded the Jambo Kenya show with ease and vigor?
Those were the days when Ateya was the kind of presenter Kenyans so craved. He was on the top of his game. He commanded Kenya’s largest listener-ship with ease and gradually made Radio Citizen Kenya’s number one radio station.

Those mornings were incredible when one woke up to Ateya’s commanding voice behind the mics. Indeed, he built even his fellow presenters. Ooh sorry! Ateya wasn’t just a presenter; he was a radio personality.
However, his downfall was on the offing. When he left radio Citizen he hurt the massive listenership he had so commanded. He joined Milele FM, a then upcoming Radio Station, not established as royal Media’s Radio Citizen.
That is exactly where the rain started beating him. He left behind his faithful, who, like Jesus’ disciples, had faithfully followed his programmes. It’s important to note that Ateya had been promised a big package at Milele FM. He was poached effectively.
That was another mistake. Of course all of us love good packages. But there are a number of considerations to make before jumping into some funny decisions. Ateya didn’t consider me. He left me at radio Citizen for Milele FM, a station whose frequencies were so poor in my hood then. I could not trace Ateya.
Remember he had parted ways with KBC, Family media, etc before joining Radio Citizen. He was now on his way to Milele FM. He is now out of Milele Fm. How I wish he followed veteran presenters Leonard Mambo Mbotela and Ali Salim Mmanga’s examples. They never hopped from one station to another. They are legends!
That said, Ateya was still given the Milele Breakfast Show at Milele FM which he rebranded to Kitendawili Cha Milele together with Mogaka. Atleast to bring back his abandoned Radio Citizen flock to Milele FM. I’m not sure how many followed their master. Those who felt betrayed like me abandoned Ateya’s show.

After a while, the unpredictable Ateya left Milele FM breakfast Show to work behind the scenes in the same station. Another act of betrayal. People need your voice man! Leaving them again was suicidal. It was tragedy. BETRAYAL!
And now comes the news of your resignation Ateya! Reason? New challenge elsewhere. Am not sure what the new challenge will be. But I have a word of advice for you: NOT ON RADIO. Unless you heed my advice, the so craved legacy you built for yourself will die, for good.
Hold on man, you already have a reputation! Preserve it. Avoid Radio this time round. The damage is enough. Preserve the remaining part of your reputation. Try your new challenge elsewhere, probably in entrepreneurship or just go home.
