Robert Alai: Kenyan Media Killing Gor Mahia And Luos

Gor Mahia football club has made headlines for good and bad reasons in equal measure of late, after winning its 14th Kenyan premier league title and after its fans caused mayhem in Machakos where they are alleged to destroy property worth millions of shillings.

The debacle led to Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua banning Gor Mahia ffrom appearing in Machakos and the news was all over in the media.

However, Alai has felt that the media gave much publicity to the hooliganism at Machakos County, unlike what they did when Gor Mahia won the Tusker Premier League title last weekend.

This has prompted the outspoken blogger to bash the Kenyan Media for what he believes is trying to kill Gor Mahia and the Luo community by associating them with hooliganism.

Alai has taken issue with the publicity that the negative side of of Gor Mahia has been given compared to that given to their achievements.

This is what Alai posted in his facebook page:

alai

“When Gor won, there wasn’t much publicity, when they caused a little stir at Machakos all media houses and social media were awash with news of hooliganism and Luos.

What is worth celebrating? Is it the victory and encouraging sports or splashing all newsrooms with inconsequential hooliganism news.”
