Thought only beautiful people are allowed to hold pageants?? Ugly people last Saturday congregated to crown the ugliest of them all at a Mr. Ugly pageant.

Nine entrants competed for a grand prize of R1 000 (Kes 7,219) in the inaugural Mr. Ugly pageant held Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Former SA judge David Ntshangase organized the Mr. Ugly pageant to give a platform to celebrate and recognize those who felt they were ugly and unappreciated.

Simon Mpuyazi walked home with the grand prize after he was crowned the ugliest while Lucky Mdenge was the first runner up.

Some well endorsed South African mummies were among those who attended the Mr. Ugly pageant to cheer up the contestants.
