The Five Gospel Acts Who Took a Break from the Industry and It’s Only Fair They Come Back.

This year started with the refreshing news that Manzi Wa Maana singer Henrie Mutuku was working on an album after such a long hiatus from the gospel industry. As she steps up her efforts, the gospel industry would be better off if some of its past headlining acts could end their silence and treat us to their creative efforts once again.

It has been pretty long. Most of these acts made a name for their out of the norm songs or delivery. Here are five such acts we would love back on a regular basis.

SK Blue

The mellow voiced singer must have made a last well received effort when he featured on Ringtone’s Pamela song. Since then he has gone quiet and the industry misses his vocals and calm performance.

The remaining Zaidi Ya Mziki Members (Gospel Fathers and Jogg C)

This group best song still has to be their debut, ‘Nampenda Bwana’ but their way of rap and their boys next door demeanor was amazing and made them a welcome sight in our living rooms and soothing sound to our ears. While it is easy to understand and empathize with them following the passing of Peter Kaberere, I am sure getting back to the studio will be helpful to everyone

Wazee Wetu

There was a time ‘Huu Mwaka/Sudu’ was both a club banger as well as a top anthem in churches and the airwaves. Then these fellows who brought a twist swag to gospel music and too much creativity left us hanging on memories.

Mr. T

Another guy who got us hit after hit before being absent without our official leave. Sure early this year in February he gave us ‘Haijalishi’ but then the collaborations and releases have been far in between more of one off not the prolific level he was when he came through to the scene.

Astar

Yes, any Astar fan will agree with me that Astar has not just eased up a bit but rather just switched off from the studio. Yeah he has had collaborations being featured in other artists’ songs and performances but even these have been sparse. Fans only have to get back to the effort he placed in making his two albums to realize just how less he has come down from his prolific rate. His new efforts are more concentrated on Cleaning The Airwaves but we can use a bit of his lyrical prowess and delivery now. Just imagine a collaboration between Astar and Juliani…
