The Fun, Glamor and Exciting Performances At The Koroga Festival (+Photos)
This weekend all roads were leading to the Arboretum for what is possibly the most exciting event this year, The Koroga Festival.
Fittingly named after the Swahili word meaning “mix,” The Koroga Festival was fun-packed, fashionable with pocket friendly food and liquor, thrilling performances by Atemi and others, bouncing castles for the kids. And best of all it was visibly lacking in ratchets that plague a lot of Kenyan events nowadays. It was a family-friendly event much like the station that hosted it, 98.4 Capital F.M.

Ladies, gents and kids came out to the lush green Nairobi Arboretum in their finest frocks, runway hair and snazzy outfits. The performances were incredibly exhilarating with Atemi performing hits such as ‘Imenibamba’ and Chris Adwar getting the crowd up on their feet with his fun renditions of popular tracks.

The highlight of the evening however was when Simphiwe Dana, often compared Miriam Makeba, Amy Winehouse and Billie Holiday took to the stage. Fans flocked around the stage in droves taking photos and thoroughly enjoying her performance which was done in gripping vocals coupled by theatrics. But her performance was not the only thing that caught the crowd’s eyes but her flamboyant outfit that compromised of a grey-black tulle skirt, leather band, black top and an Afro for days.

Simphiwe Dana for those not familiar with her has been named the “Best Newcomer” award and Best Jazz Vocal album at the 11th South African Music Awards with her first album “Zandisile” She has also been lauded as the “Best Female Artist”, thanks to her the song “The One Love Movement on Bantu Biko Street”, at the 13th South African Music Awards.

In Conclusion,Koroga totally lived up to the hype and showcased Kenya’s brilliant and diverse local talent, at the same time as also showcasing leading African artists through music, fashion, food and arts.
