Top 3 April Fools Day Jokes Yesterday

Yesterday was April 1st, a day of fun and laughter. Those who hadn’t set their reminders though were in for rude shocks in the morning, as the Kenyan media competed to see who could pull off the best prank. Here are our top 3 that won the day:

 3. Capital FM’s Oil Tweet: At close to 10 o’clock in the morning yesterday, Capital FM’s social media team came up with this ingenious announcement:

“Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to visit Turkana elders with advice on oil management”

Despite the obvious nature of the joke as a play on the recent discovery of oil in Kenya, the extremely funny nature of it all resulted in it becoming a trending topic on Twitter.

2. Standard Group’s Gor Mahia article: Yesterday The Sunday Standard ran an article that insinuated that Gor Mahia had been relegated from the Kenya Premier League as a consequence of their fans’ recent violent streak. Given the passionate nature of many Gor Mahia fans, alot of them took to social media to protest, shortly before they got the joke.

1. Ghafla’s Camp Mulla story: Yours truly ‘broke’ a story yesterday about how Camp Mulla had allegedly been ‘signed by Young Money.’ This gem of an article was the brainchild of Chimwani Khasiani, an intern currently with Ghafla!
