The wait if finally over. The president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned the brand new bridge in Jinja this week. The 525 m long bridge was named, “the source of the Nile bridge” and was constructed in 48 months. The president applauded the Japanese governement for their support with funding, a total of 41.1 Billion shillings,\u00a0 through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)<\/p>\n

The construction was also a contribution from both internal and external labor. According to our sources, Museveni shared this particular fact during his speech.<\/p>\n

The Bridge is a marvel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cI have been informed that out of the 760 staff at the peak of construction, 90.5% of Contractors\u2019 staff were; Ugandan Engineers, technicians, craftsmen and laborers. Out of 33 staff of the Supervising Consultant, 67% were Ugandan Engineers and Works Inspectors, 80% of reinforcement steel for high performance concrete was sourced locally in Uganda,<\/em>\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Bridge will support trade, and a market, as this route will link the country to the seaport.<\/p>\n
