Unmasking P-Unit’s Gabu

P-Unit is one the top (if not the top) group famed for churning out some of the hottest urban music locally. While most of P Unit’s fans appreciate their music as a group, they very little about the group’s members. Today, we begin a three-part series into an inside look at each of P-Unit’s members’ lives. Gabu aka Buganya sets the ball rolling for us.

Here are 10 things most people don’t know about Gabu;

1. His real name is Gabriel Kagundu.

2. Gabu grew up in Nairobi Kenya, while studying, he realized his passion for music at an early age.

3. In 2004, he worked with Calif records on his debut single “Paulina” which was used on a popular Television show called Dance Mania.

4. Met Frasha and Bon’eye after a year of writing and composing music for several artists., when in 2005 he met Frasha and Bon’eye.

5. In 2006, together with Frasha and Bon’eye formed the group “P-UNIT” that changed the dynamics of music in Kenya forever.

6. He has an eye for fashion choices and designs; Gabu has been the face of fashion designers, Blackbird Jeans, Kepha Maina, et al.

7. Gabu is also the creative design consultant for Ello Designs, which is an up-market jewelry and retail company selling both locally and internationally.

8. Gabu is involved in mentoring upcoming artists via his collaborative company Absolute Entertainment.

9. He has done voluntary work at the Nairobi Hospice and is constantly looking for young children to mentor from under privileged backgrounds.

10. Gabu believes that there is great talent in the youth; If given the chance like he was. He is a fine example of believing in your dream and working towards it.
