When Fashion Meets Film: Nick Ondu Presents Urban Hunter!

This fashion film can pass off for a music video, or the intro to a great movie. Set in a farm, it shows off the designer’s creations in a very fascinating way.

The Nest Screens Argo By Ben Affleck

Meet Nick Ondu, the owner and CEO of Ankara Vintage. This is one of the leading fashion houses in Nairobi that featured prominently in Kitenge Fest held last year. See his picture below, courtesy of Eric Saganda’s Fotogeric.

Lemmi get straight to the video in question. This short fashion film was directed by Jim Chuchu of Just A Band. It features models Knicco Hodge and Fiona Muthoni as the killers, and models Great Toluwase, Brian Onyango, Lucarelli Onyango, Emo Rugene and Nick Mwaniki as the victims. The Makeup is by Bellesa Africa. Sound Design by Adeiyu.

According to the press release, Nick’s work is a mesmerising melange of motifs. Man’s innate ruggedness, his hunger for adventure, raw primitivism and the human need for desire are the inspiration for this unisex selection. Nick’s medium is ethnic prints: from paisley to bogolan to impressions of kuba cloth. He works them into cuts that are clean and classic. The new shoulder for men is cut confidently wide, chiselling out the classic male silhouette. The colours range from subtle terracottas to celestial blues and rich saffrons. The menswear collection takes a turn for the dramatic in a tailored jacket sliced in half and harnessed to the form with raw leather straps. Watch the video below.
