DCI Launches Probe Into Ol Kalou By-Election Violence, Targets Armed & Hooded Goons

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a probe into the violence that marred the July 16 Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, focusing heavily on the alleged involvement of armed, hooded individuals.

In a statement released on Sunday, July 19, the agency confirmed that detectives are deploying forensic footage analysis, witness interviews, and digital tracking to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. The DCI emphasized that the investigation will not only target those on the ground but will also go after the individuals who planned, financed, or incited the chaos.

“Detectives are actively pursuing all credible leads through forensic examination of available evidence, analysis of digital material, witness interviews and other investigative processes to identify and apprehend those responsible,” the DCI stated.

The announcement comes shortly after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen ordered the DCI to open immediate probe files, promising that anyone found culpable would face prosecution regardless of their political alignment.

Speaking during a tour of Trans Nzoia County, Murkomen revealed that investigators are already working to unmask the hooded operatives seen disrupting the exercise. He further warned that any security officers or state operatives found to have acted outside the law would not be spared.

“I want to tell the nation that the DCI has already opened a file; the investigation is ongoing, persons will be summoned,” Murkomen asserted. “When files are ready, they will be presented to the DPP for prosecution.”

The voting exercise in Ol Kalou was plagued by disruptions, drawing sharp criticism from opposition leaders who accused rogue police officers and plainclothes armed groups of voter intimidation and assault.
