The body of celebrated gospel musician Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, was officially cleared from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and transferred to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Mortuary on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Emotional Scene at the Mortuary

The arrival of Betty Bayo’s body at the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Mortuary caused a major traffic jam as hundreds of mourning fans gathered, eager to pay their last respects.

Notably present at the morgue entrance was her ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, who was photographed dressed in all-white attire.

According to a family statement delivered by fellow gospel artist Shiru wa GP, Betty Bayo’s body will remain at the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary until all necessary funeral arrangements are finalized.

“The burial date and the venue for the burial will be announced later. Family and friends are meeting at her home in Eden Ville estate and Bluesprings Hotel Thika Rd for condolence signing,” Shiru wa GP noted.

Final Moments and Cause of Death

Betty Bayo passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at exactly 1:03 p.m. at the Kenyatta National Hospital’s private wing.

A family representative confirmed the cause of death was acute leukaemia coupled with excessive bleeding, a condition that had rapidly worsened over the weekend. Betty was first admitted to AAR Hospital on Kiambu Road before her condition deteriorated, requiring her transfer to KNH on Friday, November 7.

Despite the best efforts of the doctors, the representative stated that her body succumbed to the illness, concluding that the family has accepted the outcome as the will of God. Both her current husband, Hiram Gitau, and her former husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, were present at the hospital to receive the devastating news.
