Uhuru Kenyatta donates Kshs 1 million for Betty Bayo’s funeral costs
Former president Uhuru Kenyatta has touched the hearts of many Kenyans after donating KSh 1 million to support the family of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.
Bayo, a celebrated worship artist whose music moved countless listeners, died after a private battle with cancer — an illness many only learned about after her sudden passing. News of her condition and death sent shockwaves across the country.
During a recent gathering, gospel musician Ben Githae revealed that the former head of state had stepped in to help with funeral expenses.
“After Uhuru Kenyatta donated KSh 1 million for the burial through the Kenyatta Foundation, he also requested the names of Betty Bayo’s children so the foundation can sponsor their education,” Githae said.
Support Arrives as Family Fundraises
The generous donation comes as Bayo’s family continues raising funds to give her a dignified farewell. Her ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari, publicly thanked the former president for the gesture.
Kanyari — who shares two children, Sky Victor and Danny, with the late singer — had earlier shared heartwarming videos of him spending time with his son.
He has previously spoken about their co-parenting arrangement, noting that despite the ups and downs of their former marriage, they worked peacefully together for the sake of their children.
“She was a very good woman, even in terms of co-parenting,” he said. “I have been paying the children’s school fees, and we collaborated on many issues without disagreements.”
Kenyans Applaud Uhuru’s Goodwill
Kenyans online were quick to praise Uhuru’s intervention, leaving comments such as:
-
“The God she served will never leave her children to suffer.”
-
“Uhuru has been sent by God to settle this matter once and for all.”
-
“Her dream was quality education for her kids — and God has provided.”
-
“Why assume their father cannot provide? He’s been present all along.”
The reactions reflected both gratitude for the assistance and recognition of Kanyari’s ongoing role as a responsible parent.
Kanyari Shares Tender Moments With His Son
As tributes continue flowing, Kanyari has been sharing more personal moments with his children. In one recent clip, he is seen playing football with his son Danny — first inside the house, then outside on a well-manicured lawn.
The touching father–son moment is set to a soft, emotional Octa Sounds track, with Kanyari echoing the words shown on the screen: “Nitakupenda milele.”
Pastor Defends His Role as an Active Father
The video emerged shortly after Kanyari addressed claims that others could take over caring for his children following Bayo’s death.
He questioned why anyone would seek custody while he is alive, present, and providing for them.
Kanyari also acknowledged that Bayo’s widower, Tash, has every right to stay connected with the children, noting that he lived with them and treated them well during Betty’s lifetime.
