Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has once again sparked online discussion after publicly sharing the results of an HIV test conducted during a routine medical check-up.
The politician posted a video on social media showing medical practitioners carrying out a series of health assessments as part of his ongoing fitness and weight-loss journey. The tests included checks on his blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, uric acid levels, and an HIV screening.
During the session, Sonko briefly appeared concerned after mistakenly thinking the HIV test kit had displayed two lines, which would typically indicate a positive result.
However, the nurse attending to him quickly clarified that only one line was visible, confirming that the result was negative.
“I thought that it was two lines, but it is not. Hapo kwa HIV test leo ndio kuna shida kidogo lakini tunaendelea na exercise tu from where we left,” Sonko said in the video.
Fitness and weight-loss update
The former governor also used the opportunity to update his followers on his health and fitness progress.
According to Sonko, he currently weighs 80 kilograms, revealing that he had gained one kilogram while travelling during burial arrangements for the late Anita Mugweru.
In recent months, Sonko has frequently documented his fitness journey online, regularly sharing workout videos, health updates, and lifestyle changes with his supporters.
Mixed reactions online
The video attracted mixed reactions across social media platforms.
While some users praised Sonko for openly discussing health matters and encouraging regular medical check-ups, others criticised aspects of the medical procedures shown in the clip.
Several viewers questioned why the nurse conducting the tests was not wearing gloves, while others pointed out that accurate blood pressure readings typically require a patient to rest before testing begins.
