Gachagua Cuts UK Tour Short To Face Fuel Crisis, Begins Search For 2027 Presidential Running Mate
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially ignited his 2027 presidential bid, revealing that he is actively hunting for a formidable running mate capable of delivering a massive voting bloc.
Speaking during an interview in the United Kingdom, the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) emphasized that while he commands a substantial and loyal following back home, winning the presidency requires a strategic mathematical calculation to clear the constitutional 50-plus-one threshold.
”For me to top it up, I need a very serious running mate with serious numbers,” Gachagua emphasized. ”Getting a running mate who can mobilize serious numbers to help you become president is not a walk in the park. We are all informed in compatibility.”
Cutting UK Trip Short Over Fuel Crisis
The former Deputy President, who had planned a month-long tour of the UK, revealed he is cutting his trip short after just one week. Gachagua stated that his abrupt decision to return home was prompted by immense pressure from ordinary Kenyans, who have flooded his channels demanding his physical presence to lead the fight against the country’s skyrocketing fuel crisis.
His early return signals an intention to immediately capitalize on the growing public discontent over the energy pricing regime and position himself as a champion for the burdened taxpayer.
Tensions Brew in the United Opposition
Gachagua’s premature search for a running mate is bound to shake up the political landscape and inject fresh tension into the newly formed United Opposition coalition.
The opposition front currently features heavyweights such as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Jubilee Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i, both of whom are widely viewed as the frontrunners to fly the joint opposition flag. By openly structuring his own presidential ticket, Gachagua is signaling that he does not intend to play second fiddle, potentially complicating unity talks aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the August 10, 2027, general election.
