Kenya to Experience Chilly Weather as Temperatures Drop Below 10°C in Several Regions
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned Kenyans to brace for cold weather conditions between June 23 and June 29, with night-time temperatures expected to fall below 10°C in several parts of the country.
According to the department’s seven-day forecast, the coldest conditions will be experienced in parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central Rift Valley and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Nyahururu is expected to record the lowest temperatures at 4°C, followed by Narok at 6°C, Kericho at 7°C and Eldoret at 8°C.
KMD noted that cold and cloudy conditions will continue intermittently in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, the Rift Valley and sections of North-eastern Kenya.
Despite the cold nights and early mornings, daytime temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western regions.
Counties Expected to Receive Rainfall
The weather outlook shows that several counties across western, central and coastal Kenya are likely to experience rainfall during the week.
Counties expected to receive showers include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira and Kericho.
Other areas likely to receive rainfall include Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Narok, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
Rain is also forecast in parts of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo, as well as coastal counties including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
Residents in western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin should expect occasional morning rainfall, with afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing in some areas and spreading to neighbouring regions.
Nairobi and Highlands Weather Outlook
In Nairobi and other parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, mornings are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with occasional rainfall before sunny periods emerge later in the day.
Some areas may also experience afternoon and night showers during the forecast period.
Weather Conditions in Other Regions
North-eastern Kenya is expected to experience mainly sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights. Some areas may receive morning rainfall during the first half of the forecast period.
Counties in the South-eastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita Taveta, are expected to begin the day with cloudy skies before sunny conditions develop.
At the Coast, residents can expect sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights, with isolated morning and afternoon showers possible in some areas early in the week.
KMD has advised residents to prepare for the changing weather patterns, especially those in colder regions and areas likely to receive rainfall.
