Streamer Vindee Arrested During June 25 Commemorations as Nairobi Protests Intensify

Vindee was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday, June 25, after joining thousands of Kenyans who gathered to commemorate victims of the 2024 Gen Z protests.

The arrest, which was captured during a livestream, happened as demonstrations continued across parts of the city amid heightened security operations and a heavy police presence.

Footage circulating online showed Vindee walking through the CBD with members of his team, including his main videographer and several supporters who had been following him during the day.

The situation changed suddenly when a plain-clothed officer approached the content creator and took him into custody.

The unexpected move left his team and supporters shocked, with confusion erupting as officers moved in.

Vindee’s videographer appeared visibly unsettled as he tried to capture the unfolding events while the livestream continued broadcasting the arrest.

Viewers watching the broadcast reacted strongly, with some questioning the officer’s actions and demanding to know why the popular streamer was being detained.

Tear Gas Deployed as Crowds Gather

The arrest happened as demonstrations in Nairobi’s CBD continued gaining momentum.

Videos from the scene showed large groups of protesters moving through different streets, chanting slogans and remembering those who lost their lives during the June 2024 demonstrations.

Police officers were also seen deploying tear gas to disperse sections of the crowd as tensions rose.

Footage from the livestream captured officers firing tear gas canisters toward protesters during confrontations in parts of the city centre.

The demonstrations were part of nationwide events marking the anniversary of the June 2024 anti-government protests, which became one of Kenya’s most significant youth-led movements in recent years.

TikToker Mary Musyoka Raises Travel Concerns

Meanwhile, TikToker Mary Musyoka expressed concern about reaching Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after being caught up in heavy traffic disruptions linked to increased security operations.

Speaking in a TikTok video on Thursday, June 25, 2026, Mary said she was stuck on Kiambu Road, where a large number of police officers had been deployed ahead of the demonstrations.

She explained that she was travelling to catch a flight but was unsure whether she would access the airport in time due to the road restrictions.

“Guys, let me tell you something. So many officers have been dropped here on Kiambu Road. And I have a flight now. I don’t even know how I am going to access the JKIA airport,” she said.

Mary said she was aware protests had been planned but had not expected the scale of the security deployment she encountered.

According to her, officers appeared to have been deployed as early as 5 a.m. in preparation for the demonstrations.

“We knew there were protests, but we did not expect police officers to block roads and be all over. The officers were dropped here at 5 a.m. because of the anticipated protests,” she explained.

With uncertainty over which routes remained open, the TikToker asked her followers for advice on the best way to reach the airport.

She said some people had suggested alternative routes, including using the Northern Bypass and passing through Kamakis to avoid heavily secured areas.

“Now, please, guys, tell me, how do we go? Which is the easiest route to use? I see someone told me to go back and use Northern Bypass and Kamakis,” she added.
