74 Nairobi Protesters Spend Night In Cells Ahead Of Milimani Court Arraignment

Roughly 74 individuals arrested during the Thursday, June 25, 2026, memorial demonstrations spent the night at the Nairobi Central Police Station. They are expected to be formally charged at the Milimani Magistrates’ Court on Friday, June 26.

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo confirmed the development, noting that the scheduled court appearance follows intense pressure from human rights advocates and legal activists demanding the immediate production of all detainees.

“In accordance with their right to a fair trial, we agitated for their arraignment in Court without undue delay. The 74 will be presented before the Magistrates Court in Milimani later today, where a team of Advocates are on standby to represent them pro bono.” — Faith Odhiambo, Former LSK President

Odhiambo also issued an urgent appeal to lawyers near the Kibera and Makadara Law Courts, urging them to remain on standby to offer pro bono (free) legal services in anticipation of additional protest-related arraignments across the city.

National Arrest Breakdown: Nairobi Leads

The upcoming court appearances follow a comprehensive national security brief issued on Thursday evening by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. The Ministry of Interior confirmed that 355 people were arrested nationwide during the Gen Z memorial protests.

Nairobi County registered the highest number of apprehensions, accounting for nearly half of the country’s total arrests.
