Kenya Met Warns of Hot Conditions in 10 Counties as Temperatures Climb Above 30°C
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned that several parts of the country will experience hot daytime conditions during the week of July 7 to July 13, 2026, with maximum temperatures expected to exceed 30°C in at least 10 counties.
According to the latest weekly maximum temperature outlook, the hottest conditions are expected in parts of Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, Marsabit, Turkana and Samburu counties.
Mandera and Lodwar to record the highest temperatures
KMD forecasts show Mandera and Lodwar in Turkana County will be among the hottest towns in the country, with daytime temperatures expected to reach 36°C.
Garissa is forecast to record a high of 34°C, while Wajir is expected to reach 33°C. Voi is projected to experience maximum temperatures of 32°C, with Kakamega, Kisumu and Lamu expected to hit 31°C.
Mombasa is forecast to reach 30°C, while Nairobi is expected to remain relatively cooler with daytime highs of around 27°C.
Public advised to take precautions
The weather department has urged residents in the affected areas to take measures to protect themselves from the heat, particularly during the afternoon when temperatures are expected to peak.
KMD has advised the public to:
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
- Take extra care of children, older adults and livestock, who are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
The department has encouraged Kenyans to keep monitoring its regular weather updates to help them plan their activities and stay safe throughout the forecast period.
