Abel Mutua Reveals He Pulled Down Story Episode After Legal Threat Linked to Ambani Family

Kenyan filmmaker and digital storyteller Abel Mutua has revealed that he was forced to remove one of his popular storytelling episodes after receiving a legal demand letter connected to India’s wealthy Ambani family.

Mutua said the letter came after he shared a Swahili narration about two Ambani brothers, a story that explored their different paths in business and wealth.

According to the content creator, the episode discussed how one of the brothers rose to become one of the world’s richest businessmen, while the other allegedly struggled after failing to manage inherited business interests effectively.

Legal Pressure Forces Episode Removal

Speaking about the incident, Mutua claimed that the brother featured in the story accused him of defamation and argued that the narration had harmed his reputation.

“I received a demand letter and had to pull down the episode because I could not afford such a legal battle,” he said.

The filmmaker explained that taking on a lawsuit against someone with significant financial resources was not a risk he was willing to take. Instead, he decided to remove the episode to avoid a costly and lengthy legal process.

Despite the seriousness of the matter, Mutua ended his account with humour, questioning how a story told entirely in Kiswahili reached the businessman.

“I always tell my stories in Swahili. Who translated it for those Indians?” he joked.

Social Media Users Correct Family Name Confusion

The revelation sparked conversations online, with several users pointing out confusion surrounding the names involved.

Some users noted that the family Mutua was referring to was the Ambani family and not the Adani family, after some online discussions incorrectly mixed up the two prominent Indian business dynasties.

One user, @njokiiiv9za, wrote:

“Jamani ni Ambani si Adani. Stop misleading people.”

Another added:

“People should read and know that Adani and Ambani are two different entities.”

The discussion highlighted how easily details about major global business figures can become confused online, especially when stories spread across different languages and platforms.
