Kartelo Announces Departure From ‘Zabe’ Comedy Show

Renowned content creator and sheng sensation Nick Chege, popularly known as Kartelo, has officially announced his exit from the hit comedy show Zabe. The comedian, who has been co-hosting the show alongside media personality Oga Obinna, broke the news to his fans on Friday, January 16, 2026.

In a concise statement shared via his social media platforms, Kartelo confirmed he is stepping away from the production, though he remained tight-lipped regarding the specific reasons for his departure.

“I’m stepping away from Zabe. To the fans who supported the show and the incredible team that made it possible, I’m truly grateful,” Kartelo stated. He concluded his message on an optimistic note, adding, “Looking forward to the next chapter.”

A Journey of Resurgence

Kartelo’s exit comes at a time when he seemed to have found a steady rhythm in the entertainment industry following a period of absence. A few years ago, the comedian sparked national concern after he “went missing” from the limelight, leading to widespread speculation about his well-being.

The mystery of his whereabouts at the time was famously addressed by fellow comedian Mulamwah, who tracked Kartelo down in Kayole for a brief sit-down. During that viral encounter, Kartelo dismissed rumors of drug addiction that had been circulating online.

“There is no addiction. I’m okay,” he assured fans at the time, explaining that he had simply been focusing on his personal life and family responsibilities.

While he remained vague about the status of his own venture, ‘Rieng Radio,’ his partnership with Oga Obinna on Zabe was widely seen as a successful professional comeback.

The Voice of the Streets

Kartelo first shot to fame through his mastery of “Sheng” and his unique ability to articulate the nuances of ghetto life through short, relatable comedy skits. His chemistry with Oga Obinna on Zabe helped propel the show to significant heights, making it a staple for fans of urban Kenyan humor.

As Kartelo prepares to embark on his next venture, fans are left speculating whether the “Mbogi Kimonyoski” star will return to independent content creation or launch a new media project. For now, the “Sheng” maestro seems focused on the future, leaving behind a successful legacy at Zabe.
