Kenya Power Announces Planned Electricity Interruptions in Multiple Counties on Thursday, May 21, 2026

Kenya Power has announced scheduled power maintenance affecting several regions across the country on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The planned interruptions are expected to affect parts of Nairobi, Makueni, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, and Kakamega counties as technicians carry out maintenance works on the electricity network.

Nairobi Region

Parts of Karen to Experience Day-Long Outage

In Nairobi County, sections of Karen and Lang’ata will experience power interruptions from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Areas expected to be affected include parts of Langata Road, Karen Well Mall, Mokoyet East and West, Nyumba Moja Road, Murishu Road, Mukinduri Road, Forest Edge, Amara Ridge, Academy Road, Nairobi Academy, Japanese School, Kuwinda Estate, Karen Green, Don Bosco Boys, Silanga Road, Liberty Centre, and nearby customers.

Other institutions and businesses listed include Rubis Energy, African Gospel Church, Radix, Scripture Mission, and O-Paul.

Parts of Makueni County Affected

In Makueni County, electricity supply will be interrupted between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Areas set to be affected include Mulala Market, Kithumani Market, Muangini Market, Kyambeke Level 4 Hospital, Kwa Kotoe, Mbuthani Market, Kalamba Fruit Factory, Kalamba Market, Nziu Market, Kilili Market, Gigiri Boys, and surrounding areas.

Mt Kenya Region

Nyeri County

In Nyeri County, areas around Kiganjo Police College will be without electricity from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The outage will affect Kiganjo Police College, Maisha Millers, KCC Kiganjo, Chaka Town, Kagumo High School, Kirichu Market, Nyaribo Market, Maragima Market, Mount Kenya Estate, and nearby customers.

Laikipia County

In Laikipia County, residents in Likii, Kangaita, Kalalu, and Umande areas should also prepare for a blackout during the same hours.

Affected areas include Nanyuki Law Courts, Nanyuki Police Station, Likii Farm, Lunatic Lane, Milimani, Ontulili, Peaks Hotel, Kongoni Hotel, Equinox Farm, Everest Farm, Umande, Kalalu, Demu, and adjacent customers.

Coast Region

Kilifi County

Parts of Kikambala in Kilifi County will experience a planned outage from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Areas listed include Sun N Sand, Fairdeal Park, Komax, Safepack, Pride Industries, Shariani Town, North Coast Beach Hotel, Mtwapa Primary School, Coast Breeze, Palmridge, and nearby areas.

Kwale County

In Kwale County, the interruption will affect Lungalunga and Vanga areas, including Manyatta, Alliance Safari, Baobab, and surrounding customers.

Mombasa County

In Mombasa County, the outage will affect Kilima Road, VOK, Bombolulu, and Bandari areas.

Residents and businesses in Kongowea, Ziwa la Ngombe, Bombolulu Workshop, Bungoni, Sheikh Khalifa, Bandari Quarters, Marionist Catholic Church, Hakika Flats, and adjacent areas are expected to be affected.

North Rift Region

In Uasin Gishu County, areas including Ngecheck, Ngeria, and Ndubenet will experience outages between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Locations listed include Ngeria Girls, Koros Secondary School, Kapngetuny, Lelboinet, Belkenya, and nearby customers.

Western Region

In Kakamega County, parts of Malava and West Kenya Sugar areas will be affected from 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Areas expected to experience the outage include Samitsi, Malanga, Malava Market, Kambi Mwanza Market, Shamberere, West Kenya Sugar, Kambiri Market, Kuvasali, Ileho, and surrounding areas.

Kenya Power advised affected customers to plan accordingly during the maintenance period.
