Kenya Power Announces Planned Electricity Interruptions in Multiple Counties on Thursday, May 22, 2026
Residents and businesses in several parts of Kenya should prepare for scheduled electricity interruptions on Friday, May 22, 2026, after Kenya Power announced planned maintenance works affecting sections of Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Nyeri, and Embu counties.
In a public notice, the utility company said the power interruptions are necessary to facilitate network maintenance and system upgrades.
Nairobi Region
In Nairobi County, customers in parts of Nairobi West around Upper Hill will experience a prolonged outage from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Areas set to be affected include Matumbatu Road, Matumbato Flats, Canaan Apartments, KWFT, Regent Valuers, and neighbouring customers.
North Rift Region
In Uasin Gishu County, electricity supply will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in parts of Ndupeneti, Ngeria Water, and Ngara Falls.
The affected locations include Ngecheck, Kampnyamisa, Lelboinet, Ngeria Girls, Koros Secondary School, Tegut, Kapngetuny, Ndupenet, Belkenya, and nearby customers.
Meanwhile, in Trans Nzoia County, customers in Aturukan and Kibot Primary areas will also face a scheduled outage between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Affected areas include Aturukan Hotel, Mt Elgon Dairies, Sinendet Centre, Kibomet Primary School, Bishop Yego, Sirwo Resort, Mwaita Primary School, Tuigoin Centre, Kiptenden, Kuriot, Parkera, Murgoiyo, and surrounding customers.
Mt Kenya Region
In Nyeri County, parts of Gatumbiro and Kirurumi will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The outage will affect Gatumbiro Market and TBC, Gatumbiro Boosters, Huhoini Market and schools, Kiahiti, TEAWASCO, Gaithuri, Gatawa TBC, Wagatu TBC, Kirurumi Dispensary, Gathathini School, and adjacent customers.
In Embu County, residents and businesses in Muthatari, Itabua, and NTSA areas should also expect a power interruption from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Areas listed in the notice include Nthokis, Kimangaru, Karurina, Ithangawe, Mugoya Police Station, Njakairi, Muthatari, Tenri Hospital, NCPB, prisons, Jumbo Nut, Privam Nuts, Vieznina, Iveche, Kamiu, Embu NTSA, and neighbouring customers.
Kenya Power has advised affected customers to plan accordingly during the maintenance period.
