Kenya Power Announces Widespread Outages Across Nairobi and Multiple Counties on April 28

The Kenya Power has issued a notice of scheduled power interruptions set to affect several regions across the country on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, as part of routine maintenance.

The planned outages will run for most of the day in affected areas, with the utility advising customers to plan ahead and take necessary precautions.

Nairobi Region to Be Heavily Affected

In Nairobi, multiple locations will experience power cuts between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Riverside Drive and Westlands
Areas around Riverside Drive will be impacted, including Arboretum Drive, parts of Waiyaki Way and Ring Road, and Riverside Lane. Key institutions such as University of Nairobi Chiromo Campus hostels, Dusit D2, Chiromo Mortuary, ICEA Lion, Prime Bank, Chase Bank, Delta Riverside Gardens, The Cube Riverside, One Riverside, and the Embassy of Japan in Kenya are among those listed.

Nairobi South – Mara Daima
Residents in parts of Nairobi South, particularly the Mara Daima area, will also be affected. Locations include sections of Villa Franca Estate, Tsavo Gardens Apartments, Kenwood Court, Southern Apartments, and Kings Millennium. Facilities such as Mukuru Health Centre and Scion Hospital are also on the outage list.

Kitengela and Syokimau Among Affected Areas

In Kitengela, the outage will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting areas such as Milimani, Almond Grove, Noonkopir, Naisula, Acacia, and surrounding neighbourhoods. Key roads including Prison Road and Governors Road will also be impacted.

Meanwhile, parts of Syokimau will experience a longer outage from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., covering areas along Kiungani Road, Katani Road, Community Road, and Airport Road.

Machakos and Kitui Markets Affected

In Machakos County, areas along Kitui Road will face outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Multiple trading centres, including Kyeni Ikulu, Mikuyuni, Masii, Muthetheni, Wamunyu, and Makutano markets, are expected to be affected.

North Rift Region

Parts of Nandi County, including Mosoriot and Kosirai, will experience outages from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting surrounding areas such as Tebeson, Itigo, and Kapngetich.

In Trans-Nzoia County, areas around Aturukan, Sirwo Resort, and Mwaita will also be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., including nearby schools and trading centres.

Other Regions

In parts of Kiambu County, including Mugumo and areas near Marion Schools, power will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, sections of Kitui County — including Nguni, Ukasi, Mutito, and Ngomeni — will also experience outages within the same time frame, affecting centres such as Lundi, Nuu, and Endau.

Advisory to Customers

Kenya Power has urged customers in all affected regions to plan accordingly, noting that electricity supply will be restored once maintenance works are completed. Residents are also advised to unplug sensitive electrical appliances during the outage period to avoid damage.
