Mosiria Rescues Les Wanyika Co-Founder William Kinyonga From Streets, Seeks Family
Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has appealed to the public for assistance in tracing the family of a legendary musician he rescued from the capital’s streets.
Mosiria revealed on his official social media accounts on Thursday, November 20, 2025, that he found William Peter Kinyonga, a founding member of the band Simba wa Nyika (which later evolved into the iconic Les Wanyika), in a desperate and vulnerable state.
Immediate Intervention and Care
Mosiria explained that he acted immediately upon receiving distress reports about the music pioneer’s dire condition.
“Yesterday, I rescued from the streets of Nairobi the legendary musician and founder of the Simba wa Nyika band, which later became Les Wanyika. His name is William Peter Kinyonga. He has been suffering on the streets, homeless and vulnerable, and as a government, we cannot sit back and watch a Nairobi resident suffer,” Mosiria wrote.
He personally ensured Kinyonga received new clothes and shoes, and facilitated his move to a home for the elderly where the musician will now receive safe housing, medical attention, and round-the-clock care.
Tracing Tanzanian Roots
The Chief Officer is now calling on anyone who might know Kinyonga’s relatives to come forward. The musician indicated his roots are in Tanzania, formerly Tanganyika.
Mosiria reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable residents. “Anyone who knows his family, please reach out. He has mentioned that his home is in Tanzania, Tanganyika. We shall continue to support the less fortunate in our society – na lazima tufanye hii kazi,” he added.
