Ruth K reveals she spent Ksh 1 million to get herself sorted out independently after Mulamwah left her
Popular Kenyan content creator Ruth K has opened up about the expensive reality of moving out and starting an independent life, revealing that she spent nearly KSh 900,000 while setting up her home.
Ruth shared the details during an interactive Q&A session with fans on Instagram after one follower asked for advice about leaving their parents’ house and living on their own.
The fan wanted to know how much money would realistically be needed to cover rent, furniture, and other essentials needed to start from scratch.
“I’m thinking of moving out from my parents’ house, how much do I need to get couches, rent and all?” the follower asked.
In response, Ruth explained that there is no fixed amount because everyone has different preferences, budgets, and expectations when it comes to setting up a home.
However, she admitted that the process can be financially overwhelming, especially for someone starting completely from zero.
“Kitu najua tu sio rahisi kuanza from zero; from rent, furniture, kitchen equipment, electronics… personally I spent almost 900k just to settle,” she replied.
The influencer noted that costs quickly add up when purchasing household essentials such as furniture, kitchen appliances, electronics, and paying for rent and deposits.
Despite the high cost, Ruth encouraged young people planning to move out not to lose hope, saying proper planning and self-belief can make the transition easier.
She emphasised that organisation and financial preparation are important when taking such a major step in life.
Ruth K is widely known for her previous relationship with Kenyan comedian Mulamwah. Before their highly publicised breakup in 2025, the two frequently shared details of their personal lives and family moments online, building a strong following on social media.
