A Guide to the HSBC SVNS 2 Tournament on Valentine’s Weekend

Valentine’s weekend imeangukia rugby!

So, whether you’re planning roses, Nyama Choma, or a stadium outing with matching jerseys – let me give you a few tips to make it memorable.

If you’re heading to the HSBC SVNS 2 tournament on 14th or 15th, here’s what you need to sort out before you leave the house.

Parking Info

  • Parking around the venue will be limited.
  • Expect controlled access zones and traffic diversions.
  • If you’re driving, arrive early and follow traffic marshals’ instructions.
  • Don’t create your own parking slot on a sidewalk and start arguing with officers.

There’s a better option:

Carpool or use ride-hailing services. It saves you stress after the final whistle when everyone is trying to leave at the same time.

Ticketing Issues

  • No ticket, no entry.
  • Buy through official channels only. Screenshots from “my cousin works there” will not help you at the gate.
  • Have your ticket ready – printed or on your phone with brightness up. Slow fumbling at the gate delays everyone behind you.

If it’s sold out, it’s sold out. Don’t gamble with fake resellers.

Entry Points

  • Use designated gates only.
  • Security checks will be mandatory. Bags will be inspected.
  • Follow directions from stewards and police officers – they’re managing thousands of people at once.

If you’re meeting friends, agree on a gate beforehand. “Niko karibu na tent fulani” is not a meeting plan.

Arrival Tips

  • Come early.
  • Gates open well before the first match. The earlier you arrive, the easier the screening and seating process.
  • Hydrate well & dress for the weather.
  • Make sure your phone is well charged for any emergency & capturing moments.
  • Plan your exit as well – especially if you have a long drive back home.

And if it’s a Valentine’s plan, don’t arrive at halftime looking stressed and sweaty.

Bad optics.

Prohibited Items

Don’t carry:

  • Weapons of any kind
  • Glass bottles
  • Outside alcohol (unless expressly allowed)
  • Illegal substances
  • Fireworks or flammable materials
  • Unauthorized drones

If you’re unsure about something, leave it.

Security will not negotiate policy at the gate.

Game Schedule – 14th & 15th February

Matches will run across both days, starting in the morning and stretching into the late afternoon.

Expect:

  • Pool matches earlier in the day
  • Knockout rounds later
  • Finals toward evening

Check the official match schedule beforehand so you don’t miss the specific teams you came to watch.

Have fun!

And, enjoy your Valentine’s Day!

Kenya Bags Hosting Rights for The Opening Leg of HSBC SVNS 2

World Rugby has finally dropped the news we’ve all been manifesting: Kenya will host the opening leg of the HSBC SVNS 2.

Nairobi is set to make history on 14th–15th February 2026.

For the first time ever, the global sevens circuit kicks off right here in East Africa – our city, our fans, our noise!

This isn’t just another tournament.

This is Kenya being stamped boldly onto the world rugby calendar, front and centre, first whistle, first try, first roar of the season.

The Gloval Itinerary Starts in Nairobi

Kenya leads the three-leg HSBC SVNS 2 lineup, followed by Brazil and Uruguay.

Meaning when the world tunes in to see how the season begins… they’ll be seeing Nairobi first.

The Registered Teams

Men’s Division

Only four teams – but all hungry for early promotion momentum:

  • Kenya
  • USA
  • Uruguay
  • Germany

Expect high-octane rugby, brutal intensity, and the kind of talent showcase that shapes the rest of the season.

These boys aren’t coming to jog – they’re coming to stake territory.

Women’s Division

  • Kenya (Lionesses)
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Spain
  • The matchups are spicy, the stakes are serious, and the home support? Electric.

The Lionesses will be chasing dominance in front of their people.

Kenya Rugby Union Shows Pride & Purpose

Kenya Rugby Union Chairperson Harriet Okach captured the moment perfectly – pride in the achievement:

Kenya Rugby Union is honoured by the trust World Rugby has placed in us… Hosting this event will strengthen our global presence, expand commercial potential, and inspire the next generation of players.

We are committed to delivering a world-class event that showcases elite rugby, celebrates our fans, and highlights Kenya’s unique cultural vibrancy”.

Fans, Get Ready!

Work has already begun to turn this into a full-blown rugby festival – one that will pull in fans, athletes, dreamers, hustlers, corporate suits, street legends, and everyone in between.

Match schedules, ticket details, fan engagement activities, and logistics will drop soon.
