Kimani Mbugua’s Final Words Revealed As Family Accepts Tragic Death

The father of former Citizen TV journalist Kimani Mbugua, Mr. Dedan Kimathi, has spoken out with heartbreaking details about his son’s passing, confirming the 29-year-old died on the night of Tuesday, October 14, while undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation facility in Mombasa.

In a candid interview with journalists, Mr. Kimathi revealed his son’s final, difficult words, which expressed a profound sense of despair and the desire to no longer be a burden.

“He said that ‘…I had burdened you and I didn’t want to continue to be a burden to you,'” Kimathi recounted.

Furthermore, the father shared a poignant message left behind by his son before his death. Mbugua had communicated his decision to seek peace:

“I have chosen to rest in the hands of God,” he reportedly stated.

Family Rules Out Foul Play After Investigations

Mr. Kimathi emphasized that the family has gracefully accepted the tragic reality of Kimani’s death and has categorically ruled out any suspicion of foul play. He confirmed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) investigated the incident, and the facility provided clear footage detailing the circumstances of his passing.

“We are not blaming anyone. The DCI came, and they took the body. We as a family are not complaining of the facility because the footage is there… and we have accepted it,” Kimathi stated, adding, “We have said since he has chosen to rest, who are we to say not to rest?”

Mbugua’s death became public on Wednesday afternoon, casting a shadow over the Kenyan media fraternity. As the family prepares for a burial, Mr. Kimathi has made a public appeal to Kenyans for financial assistance to ensure their beloved son receives a decent send-off.
