American rapper and singer Lil Nas X has opened up about his mental health journey, revealing that he spent several months in rehabilitation after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
In a message shared on his Instagram account, the artist said he had been taking time to reconnect with himself, regain balance and focus on his recovery after experiencing challenges with his mental health.
Lil Nas X explained that he underwent rehabilitation before returning home, where he has been splitting his time between Atlanta with his family and Los Angeles with friends as he continues his healing process.
“I’ve been in rehab for a few months, trying to ground myself and get back to earth after I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder,” he shared.
The musician added that he is currently receiving support from both a therapist and a psychiatrist, describing the process as beneficial in helping him manage his condition.
Coming to terms with the diagnosis
Lil Nas X revealed that he had suspected for years that he might have bipolar disorder but struggled to accept the possibility.
He admitted that one of the reasons he avoided acknowledging it was his hesitation about starting medication.
“I feel like I had known for the past few years, but I didn’t want to admit to it because I didn’t want to have to take medication,” he said.
The rapper also spoke about the emotional process of dealing with the diagnosis and understanding different aspects of himself.
Despite the difficulties, he said he is now in a much healthier place mentally and emotionally.
“I’m doing much better. I’m feeling better. I’m creating freely, and there’s less fear in my heart, and I’m just smelling the roses,” he said.
Returning to music
Alongside discussing his recovery, Lil Nas X also reassured fans about his music.
The artist said he has been able to return to a place where he feels more comfortable creating, suggesting that his experiences have influenced his outlook and creative process.
His latest update comes as he continues to focus on personal growth, healing and preparing for the next chapter of his career.
