Pastor James Ng’ang’a gives story of how he rescued his wife from slum life

Controversial city preacher James Ng’ang’a has once again stirred online debate after publicly reminding his wife, Murugi Maina, that he “rescued” her from Mukuru kwa Njenga.

The remarks were made during a church service at Neno Evangelism Centre and quickly spread across TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, where Kenyans widely discussed the interaction between the preacher and his wife.

According to videos circulating online, Ng’ang’a invited Murugi to greet the congregation while referencing her background and spiritual journey.

“I removed you from Mukuru kwa Njenga,” Ng’ang’a told his wife during the sermon.

Murugi Maina Responds Calmly

Murugi calmly addressed the congregation, introducing herself as a born-again Christian who now lives in Karen.

She explained that her life changed after learning spiritual teachings at the church, particularly lessons about altars and spiritual foundations.

“I already left Mukuru, so my home is Karen,” Murugi told congregants.

She added that she had identified spiritual challenges linked to her upbringing and believes overcoming them transformed her life.

Murugi further stated that previous churches she attended had never taught her about such matters until she joined Neno Evangelism Centre.

“When I left there, I built new altars that now rule over my life,” she said.

Fans React Online

As clips from the church service circulated online, social media users flooded comment sections with mixed reactions ranging from humour to sympathy and admiration.

One user identified as Alika wrote:

“I like her maturity.”

Another fan, Sylvers, praised her calmness, commenting:

“The lady is wise.”

Sue also admired how Murugi handled the moment publicly:

“If composure were a person, that would be you.”

However, another user, Karolina, expressed discomfort with the exchange, writing:

“I can’t stand humiliation!”

Pastor Ng’ang’a’s big mouth lands him in trouble with Esther Passaris

Controversial preacher Apostle James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Ministry has once again stirred national debate after a video clip allegedly showing him making disturbing remarks went viral online.

The undated footage, widely circulated across social media, appears to capture Pastor Ng’ang’a making what seems to be a shocking confession during a church service — a revelation that has triggered outrage and calls for investigation.

The Alleged Confession

In the video, Ng’ang’a is reportedly heard recounting a disturbing act from his past, claiming he was among an eight-member gang that assaulted a woman many years ago.

His alleged words were direct and unsettling:

“We assaulted one woman while we were eight people. We did it.”

The clip quickly went viral, with many Kenyans expressing anger and disbelief. However, the authenticity of the video has not yet been independently verified, raising questions about whether it could have been digitally manipulated.

Passaris Demands DCI Investigation

Among those who publicly reacted to the viral clip was Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, who on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, called for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe the matter.

Acknowledging the possibility of AI-generated or edited content, Passaris nonetheless insisted that such a serious claim must be investigated.

“In this era of AI-generated and manipulated videos, I don’t know if the clip is genuine or a deep fake; but one thing remains—it MUST be investigated,” she posted on X.

She added that if the footage is verified as authentic, the alleged confession would amount to a criminal admission, not a sermon, and authorities should take immediate action.

“If that video is real, then it is not a sermon—it is a criminal confession. It should have been flagged instantly, and the pastor picked up for questioning by the authorities.”

Call for Accountability and Justice

Passaris went further to challenge Pastor Ng’ang’a to surrender himself to police if the confession is indeed genuine, and to reveal the identities of his alleged accomplices to ensure justice for the survivor.

“As a man of God, if the pastor did make that confession, he should surrender himself to the police, name the eight others involved, and help deliver justice for the survivor,” she stated.

The legislator also expressed deep concern for the victim referenced in the alleged confession, questioning her current well-being and life after the reported ordeal.

“I keep wondering where the woman is today. How has her life been since that ordeal?” Passaris wrote, adding prayers for the survivor and all victims of sexual violence.

Pastor Ng’ang’a and Wife Murugi Spark Online Buzz With Playful Church Banter

Controversial preacher Pastor James Ng’ang’a and his wife Murugi Maina are once again trending after a string of humorous yet telling exchanges during church services went viral.

Travel Banter That Amused Congregants

In one clip, Ng’ang’a announced to his congregation that the couple would soon be travelling abroad.

“We had said we are going to Seattle,” he declared, as Murugi quickly affirmed, “Yes, we are going.”

But Ng’ang’a cheekily added that she should remain behind to care for their young children. Without hesitation, Murugi shot back, asking why he was travelling if he also had children—leaving the congregation in stitches.

Laughing, Ng’ang’a remarked: “Haha, she is also asking why I’m travelling and I also have kids.”

Online, reactions poured in. Some admired Murugi’s calmness, others praised her fashion sense and glowing skin, while a few applauded her subtle but firm defiance.

Standing Her Ground in Church

This isn’t the first time Murugi has challenged her husband’s playful provocations. In another viral moment, Ng’ang’a urged her to call out congregants who skipped overnight prayers.

“Call them stupid. How can they leave you here and go to sleep?” he told her.

Elegantly dressed in red, Murugi instead encouraged members to value prayer while acknowledging the responsibilities—especially for women—that sometimes held them back.

“I will not call you stupid, as he said, because I understand you,” she said, prompting laughter as Ng’ang’a accused her of defending the flock. At one point, Murugi even rolled her eyes in mock exasperation, further delighting the crowd.

A Marriage of Struggles and Strength

Behind the lighthearted banter, the couple has been unusually candid about their turbulent marriage. Ng’ang’a admitted their relationship once hit a breaking point, even involving police after Murugi walked out over suspicious text messages.

Murugi has openly shared her struggle with the scrutiny of being a pastor’s wife.

“What I thought marriage was turned out to be very different. There were men who wanted me, and women who wanted him. It was not easy,” she revealed.

At one stage, she packed her bags and left, a decision she later regretted. The couple eventually chose to “start afresh,” changing phone numbers and cutting off outside influence in order to rebuild trust.

Murugi confessed that advice from single friends almost pushed her to leave for good, but faith and resilience kept her in the marriage.

“God gives us what we can handle. I’m graced for this position,” she reflected.

Fascination With a Complex Couple

For many Kenyans, Ng’ang’a and Murugi’s candidness, humour, and willingness to air their struggles openly has kept them captivating—and controversial—in equal measure.

Their story reflects a marriage that, while far from perfect, thrives on honesty, resilience, and a touch of humour that keeps their congregation and fans endlessly entertained.

Pastor Ng’ang’a Defends Ministry After Viral Video Sparks Online Debate

Controversial preacher Pastor James Ng’ang’a has once again stirred conversation online after a video of his dramatic church encounter went viral. In the clip, Ng’ang’a is seen passionately addressing his congregation from his familiar pulpit, where he clarified the unique nature of his ministry.

“I’ve said this many times—this is not a church,” he declared in Swahili. “The churches are out there. This is a military ministry that deals with deeper matters—things your average pastor can’t handle.”

Ng’ang’a made it clear that his services are not for those expecting a traditional church experience.
“If you came here thinking this is an ordinary church, you’re in the wrong place. Go worship in Kawangware or Ruiru. Don’t come here and waste your time ignoring my teachings.”

At 71, Ng’ang’a described himself as seasoned and successful, asserting that his wisdom, age, and personal achievements give him the authority to run his ministry as he sees fit.

His comments came in response to a viral moment that has divided the internet. In the video, Ng’ang’a was ironically preaching about avoiding drama—only to be interrupted by a dramatic incident moments later. Spotting a man asleep in the front row, the pastor stormed over, slapped the man multiple times, and mockingly reprimanded him before kicking him out of the service.

He then turned to the woman seated next to the man, asking, “Why did you let him sleep while sitting next to you?” Despite her protests that she hadn’t noticed, she too was ordered to leave.

The video has since sparked a flurry of reactions online.

Some condemned the pastor’s actions:

“That was super disrespectful. Maybe the man worked overnight and still made time to attend church.”
“Thank God man is not God. This was completely wrong.”
“If you know the story of Eutychus in the Bible, you’d think twice before judging someone for falling asleep.”

Others defended Ng’ang’a’s no-nonsense style:

“The only real pastor out here—no filters, no faking.”
“This is pure comedy! But if it were me, I’d never step foot there again.”

Whether seen as a fearless leader or an unpredictable provocateur, Pastor Ng’ang’a continues to be one of Kenya’s most polarizing religious figures—unapologetically doing things his own way, controversy and all.

“Don’t Call Me Babe, Niite Ng’ombe” – Pastor Ng’ang’a’s Advice to Women on Handling Suitors

In a sermon that sparked debate, controversial Neno Evangelism Centre pastor James Ng’ang’a advised women to avoid entertaining multiple suitors while searching for a life partner.

Speaking during a November 2024 church service, Ng’ang’a argued that many women remain single because they engage with men who offer sweet words but no real commitment. He warned that such distractions prevent them from meeting someone genuinely interested in marriage.

Ng’ang’a urged women to stop falling for empty flattery, stating, “Kenya is not the reason you’re not married; you’re the obstacle. You’re being chewed like Big G and spit out by these crooks.” He emphasized the importance of demanding respect and seriousness from potential partners instead of getting carried away by affectionate names.

“If a man keeps calling you ‘babe’ repeatedly, tell him, ‘Don’t call me babe—call me a cow instead!'” he quipped, encouraging women to seek meaningful relationships rather than superficial attention.

Ng’ang’a’s relationship teachings have often drawn mixed reactions, and another of his controversial sermons in November 2024 warned men about forming crushes on women they meet on social media. He claimed such interactions could lead to spiritual entanglements, where a woman’s spirit might engage with a man’s spirit during sleep.

His remarks sparked online debate, with some dismissing them as extreme while others humorously entertained the idea of supernatural encounters with their celebrity crushes.

Ng’ang’a Calls Out Benny Hinn, Demands Refund for Misleading Kenya About Its Righteousness

Apostle James Ng’ang’a Criticizes Benny Hinn for Misleading Remarks on Kenya’s Righteousness

Apostle James Ng’ang’a has voiced his displeasure with the state of the nation, taking aim at American televangelist Benny Hinn for what he calls a misrepresentation of Kenya’s reality.

Pastor Ng’ang’a’s Amusing Perspective on the Dangers of Online Dating

The controversy stems from Hinn’s February 2024 crusade in Kenya, attended by prominent figures, including President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto. During the event, Hinn praised Kenya as a blessed nation and commended the First Lady for her leadership. He described the government as righteous and suggested Kenya held a special spiritual position.

While some found Hinn’s words uplifting, others, like Ng’ang’a, were less impressed. Ng’ang’a took issue with the portrayal of Kenya as righteous, pointing to the country’s deepening socio-economic struggles. Hinn’s optimism contrasted sharply with the turmoil that followed, as protests erupted in response to economic hardships and rising taxes, culminating in the June 25 invasion of Parliament.

As public frustration grows over high taxes, unemployment, and the rising cost of living, Ng’ang’a has been vocal in criticizing the government’s policies, accusing leaders of mismanaging resources. He also called out Hinn for what he sees as unwarranted praise of the administration, demanding accountability for the perceived falsehoods shared during the crusade.

Do you believe in spirits? Controversial city preacher Pastor James Ng’ang’a certainly does, and he insists that even seemingly innocent acts like online dating can awaken supernatural forces.

Pastor Ng’ang’a explained his stance against online dating, suggesting that women could astral project and lure men into fulfilling their desires.

“When you like a lady, in the evening, her spirit will come and engage in sexual activities with your spirit while you’re asleep,” he claimed. “Meanwhile, her husband, who has been married to her for 10 years, wouldn’t dare touch her. They’ve shared a bed for years, but he never engages with her.”

Anticipating criticism of his bold claims, Ng’ang’a added, “To those who call this a lie, go first and clean your blackened teeth.”

Apostle James Maina Nganga, known as “The Commander in Chief,” recently criticized women with Rasta hairstyles, urging them to stop attending his church. In a TikTok post, he expressed frustration over women showing up with Rasta hair, arguing that it sets a poor example for young people.

He warned that anyone approaching him with such a hairstyle would be expected to shave it, even stating that he would enforce this himself if necessary. “If you have Rasta, shave it before coming near me. Otherwise, you won’t be allowed in. One Sunday, we will shave you ourselves. Women, you are the ones harming this church, and your hair color is as loud as a microphone. You wear pants like Koinange,” he remarked.

He condemned the perceived lack of genuine love and moral integrity among church attendees, criticizing those who, despite professing faith, engage in dishonest, worldly behavior. “You might do worldly things while praising the Lord with your mouth. But if you are a killer, a liar, a gossip, a thief, without God’s wisdom, your focus remains on worldly matters, devoid of love or fellowship with the Holy Spirit. You constantly discuss government affairs,” he added.

Many Kenyans have used “Zakayo” as a playful critique of President William Ruto’s tax increase proposals.

The song lyrics go: “Why are you troubled when your debt has been paid by Jesus? Zakayo, come down from the tree; today, I’ll dine at your house.” Ng’ang’a emphasized that the song’s current relevance is purely coincidental, not intentional.

Eight days ago, Ng’ang’a had spoken about Gen Z and explained why he failed to show up at a street protest, despite promising to do so.

Pastor Ng’ang’a, speaking during a church service, said the reason was that he was told he is not Gen Z.

“When I went to a protest, the young people said it was a G protest. They asked, ‘How many Z’s am I?’ There are three groups, and they said, ‘You are an old man.’ I don’t know which G is here… I was told that I am not G N.”

The pastor had assured the public that he would join them in the protest last Tuesday.

“Even I will be there for that protest. Now come and hit me with teargas. I can speak as a citizen. I will leave the pastor here; let you see me,” Pastor Ng’ang’a said.

Pastor Ng’ang’a has been vocal about his disagreements with the Kenyan Kwanza government, criticizing the way it treats its people.

Pastor Ng’ang’a responds to the impending church demolition by saying, “Empty we came.”

The Neno Evangelism Centre, owned by the controversial pastor James Ng’ang’a, is facing imminent demolition as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) takes steps to reclaim prime land reportedly originally owned by the Kenya Railways Corporation but currently utilized by private individuals.

The affected properties, which include Pastor James Maina Ng’ang’a’s church and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s Jesus Is Alive Ministries, are part of a broader effort to address illegal land use in the area.

Other entities occupying Kenya Railways land without proper authorization include Rubis Petrol Station along Uhuru Highway and Arts 680 Limited.

On March 6, 2023, government officials began demolishing Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s church, leading to a confrontation and her subsequent hospitalization at Aga Khan University Hospital.

When contacted for comment, Pastor Ng’ang’a, who was reportedly in Jerusalem, declined to discuss the matter, stating:

“I’m in Jerusalem for prayers. I can’t talk about those dramas for now. God is good in all directions; empty we came and empty we will go. Be blessed.”

In November 2023, the founder of Neno Evangelism Church secured court orders to halt any construction, sale, disposal, or lease of the property.

This legal move followed a longstanding dispute with Kenya Railways, with Pastor Ng’ang’a obtaining a separate court order in June 2023, preventing the government entity from evicting him from the disputed land along Haile Selassie Avenue.

Kenya Railways maintains that the land in question is part of a railway reserve.

Incidentally, in October 2023, the controversial religious figure publicly denounced the government, accusing them of burdening Kenyans with increased taxes.

Ng’ang’a, known for his outspoken views against the government, expressed his grievances during a live church service at the Neno Evangelism headquarters in Nairobi.

Addressing the congregation, the preacher asserted his right as a man of God to speak truth to power, challenging the authorities to shut down his church if they disagreed.

He criticized the government for what he perceived as mismanagement of the economy, stating that they were arbitrarily allocating funds while threatening to close churches.

Ng’ang’a also issued a warning to the leadership of Kenya Kwanza, cautioning them that if they persist in their current course, divine consequences await.

“Speaking as an apostle, you are toying with God, and He will oust you from the kitchen,” he declared.

Pastor Ng’ang’a daughter demands cash gifts only for her wedding

The second child of Neno Evangelism founder Pastor James Ng’ang’a, Grace Neema Wanjiku Maina, is about to start a new chapter in her life when she marries Shem Mugo on December 23, 2023.

Pastor James Ng’ang’a and his late wife Esther had four children total when Wanjiku was born. According to an invitation received by Nairobi News, the wedding ceremony is set to begin at 10:00 am at Neno Evangelism Centre.

“We kindly invite you to our wedding, blessed by the families of Apostle Dr. James Maina Nganga and Dr. Gabriel Mugo Muruatetu,” the invitation said.

The couple has said clearly that they would rather receive cash gifts than other kinds of things. Wanjiku, a practicing attorney, attended Daystar University to further her education and will soon enroll in the Kenya School of Law. Shem, on the other hand, is a Nairobi-based accountant.

Pastor Ng’ang’a revealed in an exclusive interview with Nairobi News that his daughter explicitly asked for cash presents, stressing that not all wedding presents are given with good intentions.
He didn’t want them near him or his family, and he even referred to them as “uchawi gifts.”

“Not everyone sends best wishes your way during your wedding; some folks offer amusing gifts like sanitary towels and tissue paper. “My daughter asked for those who wish to give her gifts to do so in cash,” he clarified.

The second daughter of Pastor Ng’ang’a got married in March 2022, and this one is scheduled to happen soon after.

The marriage of Pastor Ng’ang’a’s other daughter, Nyambura, in a Karen garden on March 20, 2022, was an invitation-only affair. Entry was restricted to visitors holding official invitation cards, and the location was heavily guarded.

The contentious man of God has made a strong case for marriage. Ng’ang’a made a startling comparison between singles who live alone and insane individuals in one of his videos.

“Hamjaoa wale muoe haraka.” Wenu hiyo acheni ujinga. Kukaa nyumba peke yenu kama wazimu mnaenda. Those who haven’t tied the knot get hitched and put an end to their crazy single lives.
The 70-year-old father of several stated that choosing to get married is a highly private choice.

Mtoto sio wangu! – Pastor Ng’ang’a Denies Paternity Claim, Demands DNA Test

Pastor Ng’ang’a, founder of Neno Evangelism, has firmly rejected a woman’s claim to be his daughter. Naomi Wangari Maina, who appeared on Tuko TV seeking financial aid for her son’s cancer treatment, claimed Ng’ang’a as her father.

The pastor, however, is asking for a DNA test to verify the claim. “I have many children,” he stated, “but before accepting anyone, I need proof. Bring your mother, and we’ll settle this through DNA. Don’t drag me into your media drama.”

Ng’ang’a also emphasized the importance of respect from anyone claiming to be his child. “If I’m your father,” he said, “you should have shown me some basic respect, like bringing me a gift. You wouldn’t even offer a kilogram of sugar when you visited. What you sow, you reap.”

Wangari’s plea for help sparked online debate, with some questioning why a “rich” father like Ng’ang’a wouldn’t assist her. She shared her story of dropping out of school and unknowingly listening to her biological father on TV.

Wangari claimed she attended his crusades without realizing the connection. It was her aunt who hinted at the secret, though without revealing names.

Later, Ng’ang’a contacted Wangari after a crusade in her hometown. Initially skeptical, she eventually recognized the truth after he mentioned details about her family.

However, when confronted by Wangari, her mother dismissed the claim. Finally, a meeting with Ng’ang’a confirmed his paternity.

The story has ignited controversy and divided public opinion. While some sympathize with Wangari’s plight, others doubt her claim and support Ng’ang’a’s demand for proof. Only the DNA test will determine the truth and ultimately resolve this complex family drama.

  • Wangari claims Ng’ang’a is her father and seeks financial help for her son.

Pastor Ng’ang’a forces daughter to beg Kenyans for medical aid after neglecting to help grandson

The firstborn child of contentious Pastor James Ng’ang’a, Naomi Wangari Maina, is contacting Kenyans in an attempt to raise money for her six-year-old son Jonathan Wise, who is facing a serious case of B-ALL leukaemia.
Jonathan’s medical adventure started shortly after his birth on January 20, 2018, when he was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer, according to medical files seen by Nairobi News.
At just six weeks old, the disease had advanced dramatically in one eye, necessitating an immediate inoculation treatment.
Over the next three years, the young boy’s chemotherapy became a habit, involving regular trips to the operating room and three weeks of anaesthesia.

The left eye cancer stopped responding to chemotherapy in late 2020, which led to a referral for specialist care to India. The fundraising was successfully organised by the family, and Jonathan had brachytherapy treatments in India.
But they had to wait a long time until the government planned their departure in May 2020 because of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Following his return, Jonathan completed six additional theatre reviews as part of his medical journey.
Jonathan faced additional difficulties in 2023 as he fought fever, low blood, and platelet counts. These issues required numerous hospital stays and examinations, including bone marrow biopsies.
The most recent setback happened on Monday, November 20, when Jonathan’s routine paediatrician evaluation resulted in a B-ALL leukaemia diagnosis.

After experiencing financial hardship during Jonathan’s medical journey, the family is now pleading with people, groups, and well-wishers to step forward and aid Jonathan in his battle with leukaemia.
Naomi respectfully asks for help to make sure her son gets the care he needs, highlighting the potentially fatal consequences of opportunistic infections, low blood and platelet counts, and inadequate nutrition.
Upon being approached, Pastor Ng’ang’a stated that he thinks about the issue outside of his current scope.
“At this time, I would rather not

“At this moment, I prefer not to be linked to that particular case. I have my reservations regarding it,” he said.

Pastor James Ng’ang’a business goes bust!

The popular preacher and controversial speaker Neno Evangelist Pastor James Ng’ang’a has cautioned Christians from using the hotel industry as a means of making a living.

The well-known Newstead Hotel (previously Sunny Hill Hotel), which is located along the Nakuru-Nairobi road, is owned by Pastor Ng’ang’a.
Ng’ang’a disclosed that he made the decision to close his hotel because of actions that went against his religious beliefs.

He claimed to have learned that his hotel employees were renting out rooms to people looking for extramarital affairs and selling condoms, which he considered to be “devilish” and against his morals.
He claimed to have been losing money on a regular basis.

“I closed the hotel because the business that was going on there was against my preaching. That money is devilish. There is no profit since people who used to come there, some of them were married people who had ‘mpango wa Kandos’ and only wanted a quickie. Ni usherati tupu,”

Pastor Ng’ang’a continued by expressing sorrow for entering the hotel industry and asserting that it had produced no profits in the previous ten years.

He advised pastors who own hotels to lease them out to third parties instead of managing them themselves, and he asked other pastors to think twice before operating hotels.

Such endeavors, in his opinion, have the potential to divert people from their religious convictions.

“I would not advise pastors to open hotels. As a pastor, if you can build and rent it out then that is fine but it should not be you who is running it. The devil is using you through such a project,”

He claimed that neither Mugiithi nor wine were available at his hotel. But it seems that this specialized market approach was a factor in its failure to turn a profit.

Pastor Ng’ang’a made the announcement earlier this year in April that he intended to sell the hotel for Ksh 800 million, negotiable, in order to raise money to expand his ministry in the US.

The contentious figure did, however, add that he had to change his mind because he was unable to find a buyer prepared to pay his asking price.

“I had offers from buyers who wanted to acquire it for less than the desired amount, and I decided not to sell it,”

Instead, he has decided to lease the land.

Pastpor Ng’ang’a opens up about how the devil tempts him using thousands of Nairobi slayqueens

Pastor James Ng’ang’a, a controversial but well-known pastor in Kenya, is always in the news, even without trying. Other celebrities could learn a thing or two from him about how to stay relevant.

In a recent video that went viral on TikTok, Ng’ang’a claimed that he was the hottest thing in Kenya. He said that there were over 2,000 women who wanted to date him, and this didn’t even include the female ushers in his church or the women on social media.

“Wanawake wale walikuwa wananitaka mimi ni kama 2,000 hivi. Bila kuweka ushers, bila kuweka wale was social media na social distance, whatever, (The number of women who wanted me is like 2000 not including the female ushers and those on social media, whatever)”

Ng’ang’a’s claim has been met with mixed reactions from Kenyans. Some people find his arrogance and self-promotion to be off-putting, while others admire his confidence and self-belief.

Regardless of what people think of him, there’s no doubt that Ng’ang’a is a master of self-promotion. He knows how to get people talking about him, and he’s not afraid to make bold claims.
