Nigerian influencer Priscilla Ojo has opened up about the intense online scrutiny faced by her partner, Tanzanian R&B singer Juma Jux, particularly regarding his personal life and delayed plans to start a family.
Speaking during an interview on the podcast With Chude, Ojo explained that Jux had endured years of speculation and criticism from social media users in Tanzania over his decision to wait before becoming a father.
For years, Jux has remained one of East Africa’s most recognisable music stars. Unlike many artists in the entertainment scene whose relationships and family issues frequently dominate headlines, the singer maintained a relatively private personal life — something that, according to Ojo, fueled endless rumours.
Rumours surrounding Juma Jux
Ojo revealed that many online users in Tanzania questioned why the singer had not yet had children, with some making harsh assumptions about his private life.
“Even in his country, they were always saying that, oh, he cannot have a baby,” she said.
According to her, the speculation intensified over time, with some social media users suggesting the singer was impotent, while others spread rumours involving surrogacy and medical procedures.
Much of the criticism stemmed from comparisons with fellow artists and friends in the industry who had already started families.
“They didn’t know he was very ready… he knew when it was time,” Ojo explained.
Pressure from public expectations
Ojo noted that in parts of the entertainment industry, particularly among high-profile male musicians, having multiple children with different partners is often normalised. Because Jux avoided such controversies, some critics viewed his quiet lifestyle with suspicion instead of admiration.
She argued that many people failed to recognise that the singer’s decision was intentional and rooted in patience rather than inability.
According to Ojo, Jux chose to wait for the right time and the right partner instead of rushing into fatherhood to meet public expectations.
Praising Jux’s discipline
During the interview, Ojo described Jux as a disciplined individual who remained focused despite the pressures and temptations that often come with fame.
She praised his ability to maintain his personal values while navigating the fast-paced entertainment industry.
“You can roll with some certain people and not be like them,” she said, referring to Jux’s ability to stay grounded despite the lifestyles of people around him.
Ojo added that she deeply connected with his calm and focused approach to life, saying they shared a similar sense of quiet determination.
A relationship under the spotlight
The relationship between Priscilla Ojo and Juma Jux has attracted widespread attention across Africa.
Priscilla is the daughter of renowned Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo and commands a massive social media following, with millions of followers on Instagram.
Juma Jux, popularly known as the “African Boy,” has been a major figure in the Tanzanian music scene for more than a decade. He was previously in a highly publicised long-term relationship with Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee.
