Vybz Kartel confirmed to headline Kenyan concert alongside…
Vybz Kartel has been unveiled as the headline performer for the inaugural Talanta East Afrika Festival, a regional cultural showcase scheduled to tour three East African cities in May 2026.
The Jamaican hitmaker, who commands a strong fan base in Kenya, will top the bill as the festival stages events in Kampala, Kigali and Nairobi. The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, during a press conference held in Nairobi.
Organisers described the Talanta East Afrika Festival as a cross-border initiative designed to celebrate East Africa’s music, fashion, cuisine and artistic expression, while positioning the region as an emerging hub in the global live entertainment scene.
Tour Dates and Venues
The regional tour will kick off on May 1, 2026, in Kampala, Uganda, at Lugogo Cricket Oval. It will then head to Kigali, Rwanda, on May 2, 2026, at BK Arena.
The final leg is scheduled for May 8, 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya, at Laureate Gardens.
Vision Behind the Festival
Speaking at the launch, Bushington of Tunez Records Uganda said the festival represents more than just a music event. He described it as a unifying platform aimed at connecting East Africans through shared culture and identity, while spotlighting the region’s creative talent on a global stage.
Co-organiser Mayanja Jackson added that the festival is structured as a long-term cultural movement rather than a one-off concert series. According to him, the broader objective is to establish a sustainable regional platform that continuously promotes East African creativity and strengthens cross-border cultural exchange.
Economic and Cultural Impact
Targeting audiences aged between 18 and 35, the festival plans to harness social media campaigns in the lead-up to the May tour.
Beyond entertainment, organisers say the initiative is expected to boost tourism, generate local employment and stimulate sectors such as fashion, food and nightlife in each host city. They confirmed that the entire workforce for the event in each country will be sourced locally.
Additional East African performers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as anticipation builds for the regional showcase.
