Kenya Met Forecasts Rain in 20 Counties, Strong Winds Along Coast and North-Eastern Regions

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its daily weather forecast for the period between 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, and 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, warning of rainfall in several parts of the country and strong winds in coastal and north-eastern regions.

Rain expected in 20 counties

According to the forecast, 20 counties are expected to receive rainfall during the period. The affected counties are Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, Bomet, Nandi, Meru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Nyamira, Kisii, Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang’a, Nyeri, and Nyandarua.

The department said temperatures in these areas are expected to range between 11°C and 19°C during the night and early morning, while daytime temperatures will rise to between 22°C and 29°C.

Residents should expect partly cloudy skies, sunny intervals, light showers, and isolated thunderstorms in some locations.

Cool and cloudy conditions elsewhere

The weather agency also forecast cool and cloudy conditions across several central and eastern counties, including Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Makueni, and Kajiado.

These areas are expected to experience overcast conditions for much of the forecast period, with temperatures remaining relatively low.

Strong winds expected in 11 counties

In addition to the rainfall, the Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a wind advisory for 11 counties, warning that wind speeds could exceed 25 knots.

The affected counties include Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Kitui, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu.

Residents, particularly those involved in fishing, marine transport and other outdoor activities, have been urged to exercise caution due to the expected strong winds, especially in coastal areas and near large water bodies.

Weather patterns remain unpredictable

The latest forecast comes as Kenya experiences the transition out of the long rains season, a period often characterised by rapidly changing weather conditions.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public to stay updated with daily forecasts as conditions may shift quickly between sunshine, rainfall and thunderstorms in different parts of the country.
