Rain Expected in Western Kenya as Most Parts of Country Remain Dry

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast generally dry weather across most parts of the country over the week of July 14 to July 20, 2026, although several counties are expected to receive rainfall while others will experience cool, cloudy conditions.

According to the latest seven-day forecast, rainfall is likely in parts of Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu and Nandi. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for occasional showers during the week.

Cool Conditions to Persist in Central Kenya

KMD also expects intermittent cool and cloudy weather, accompanied by light rainfall in isolated areas, across parts of Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi.

The cooler conditions are expected to prevail throughout the week, particularly during the mornings and evenings, with occasional light showers in some locations.

Hot Weather Forecast for Northern and Coastal Counties

While some regions prepare for rain, several counties are expected to continue experiencing high daytime temperatures.

KMD forecasts average maximum temperatures exceeding 30°C in parts of Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, West Pokot and Turkana.

Residents in these areas are encouraged to stay hydrated, minimise prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Public Urged to Stay Updated

The weather department has advised Kenyans to keep track of daily weather updates and plan their activities accordingly, noting that weather conditions may vary across different parts of the country.

KMD also urged the public to remain informed and prepared throughout the week, particularly those in areas expected to experience rainfall or unusually high temperatures.
