Spring Valley Robbery Suspect Killed in Shootout as Detectives Recover Beretta Pistol
A suspected armed robber linked to the recent daylight attack at a popular restaurant in Nairobi’s Spring Valley area has been shot dead during a police operation in Joska, Machakos County, with detectives recovering a Beretta pistol believed to have been used in criminal activities.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect is also believed to have been part of a gang responsible for a series of violent robberies across Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos counties.
The operation was carried out after detectives from the DCI Headquarters, working alongside officers from DCI Matungulu, acted on intelligence that the suspect was hiding at his girlfriend’s house in Joska Town.
Police said officers identified themselves and ordered those inside the house to open the door. However, the suspect allegedly opened fire through a kitchen window, prompting detectives to return fire.
After the exchange, officers entered the house and found the suspect with fatal gunshot wounds.
At the scene, detectives recovered a Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with four rounds of 9mm ammunition. They also seized additional live rounds, spent cartridges and three mobile phones.
Investigators believe the suspect was involved in the recent robbery along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, where armed attackers stormed a restaurant during the day, robbing diners of mobile phones and other valuables before escaping on motorcycles.
The recovered firearm has been handed over to the National Police Service Forensic Laboratory (NPSFL) for ballistic analysis to determine whether it was used in other violent crimes.
Meanwhile, detectives have launched a manhunt for other suspects believed to have been involved in the robbery and other related criminal activities.
The DCI said investigations are ongoing as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle violent criminal gangs and bring all those involved to justice.
