7 Kenyans Abducted in December: Key Details

The recent wave of abductions in Kenya has left families devastated. Below is a summary of the individuals reported missing in December 2024:

1. Gideon Kibet (“Kibet Bull”)
Gideon, a 23-year-old digital artist and Egerton University student, is known for his satirical silhouettes of President William Ruto and other political figures on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he garnered over 86,000 followers.
On December 24, 2024, he was abducted in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, after attending a Nairobi event hosted by Senator Okiya Omtatah. His mother, Caroline Mutai, revealed that he was preparing to travel to Israel for studies, a trip she financed with a KSh 200,000 loan.

2. Ronny Kiplagat

Gideon’s younger brother, Ronny, went missing on December 21, 2024. The family suspects Ronny’s disappearance was a ploy to lure Gideon.

3. Steve Kavingo Mbisi

Steve, 22, was abducted from his home in Kathangaita, Mlolongo, on December 17, 2024, by masked men. His location remains unknown.

4. Billy Wanyiri Mwangi
Billy, a 24-year-old university student and social media influencer, was last seen at a barbershop in Embu Town on December 21, 2024. Two men in hoodies abducted him and drove off in a car. Known for engaging online content, Billy’s family has appealed to the government for help in locating him.

5. Peter Muteti (“The Nairobiyan”)
Peter, a 22-year-old social media influencer, was abducted on December 21, 2024, in Uthiru, Nairobi County. Armed men in a white Prado seized him at a kiosk near his home. Despite reporting the incident to Kabete Police Station, his family has received no updates.

6. Kelvin Muthomi
Kelvin, 26, was abducted on December 26, 2024, in Githurai 45, Nairobi. He was last seen heading home, and his whereabouts remain unknown.

7. Bernard Kavuli
Bernard, a 24-year-old Journalism student at Mount Kenya University, was taken on December 22, 2024, in Ngong Town, Kajiado County. CCTV footage showed him being forced into a white Probox vehicle near a petrol station. His family has been in anguish since his disappearance.

Rising Concern Over Abductions
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights revealed that 82 abductions occurred in the last six months, with 29 individuals still missing since June 2024.

Public outcry over the abductions led to street protests, and President William Ruto recently pledged to end the kidnappings.
“We want all children to be safe,” he said. “The government will address abductions so Kenyan youth can live peacefully. But young people must also be disciplined and polite to help build the nation.”

Despite his promises, the seven December abductees remain missing, sparking criticism of the government’s inaction.
