Yvonne Chaka Chaka visits Brenda Fassie’s family

Yvonne Chaka Chaka paid the late Brenda Fassie’s family a visit.

She took to Twitter to share a video of the visit.

She and Brenda Fassie’s singer sang along to  Vulindlela with one of the late singer’s sisters who only recognized who it was as they were singing.

Speaking to the Daily Sun about the Visit this is what she had to say;

“The last time I went to see them was a couple of years ago, and when we arrived, they didn’t recognize us hence the reaction when they finally saw who it was. I also went to see how they are doing after their young brother Kenny passed away. I was Overseas when I heard the news and couldn’t attend the funeral,” she said.

“It was lovely seeing everyone, I actually didn’t put the whole video, but it was a beautiful feeling I am happy.  And to also bring something small just to share with them as a family I can’t explain the feeling. This is really a good start because it is a reminder that we need to be kind.”

Brenda Fassie Biopic filmmakers may face legal action

The drama between Chicco and Brenda Fassie family continues.

Chicco who was Brenda  manager claims to own the production rights to her music and any movie about her life. Earlier this week, it was reported that Chicco had filed a legal application to stop the movie from going ahead.

Bongani slammed Chicco’s attempt, saying that he did not own their family.

TshisaLIVE reports that Chicco has blamed the fiasco on a disagreement over money. Chicco claims that he gave Bongani R200,000 in February last year to sort out financial troubles, however the money was soon finished and Bongani allegedly returned for more.

“He is trying to play the victim. He knows where the money went. He knows the money went to drugs. I am not a drug addict, I do not drink. I do not smoke. I am very responsible. These people chow money recklessly and they want money for drugs. It is not fair,” he said.

Bongani’s manager Vaughn Eaton told the publication that he was not a child and this was a “cheap ploy” to discredit him.

Chicco told the publication that he plans to go full steam ahead with legal action against the production company because he wants Brenda to be portrayed correctly in the film.

Late last week it was revealed that a biopic about Brenda’s colourful life was in the works and that auditions for the lead role would be open to all South Africans. The film is being produced by Showbizbee Film Productions and is set for release later this year.

Brenda Fassie biopic to hit theatres next year

A new film based on the life of the late Brenda Fassie, is being worked on.

A search for local talent to portray Brenda, is on.

The auditions are open to all South Africans nationally. Other details are however yet to be confirmed, in regard to the audition process.

UK-based film and television production company Showbizbee has acquired the rights in conjunction with the Brenda Fassie estate and Legaci Nova to film the story of the vivacious late singer.

“My mother Brenda has been surrounded by controversy in her life and even after her death,” Bongani Fassie expressed in a statement.

“It is with great excitement that we have partnered with Showbizbee Film Productions to make the Brenda Fassie movie for Box Office release.

“I’m particularly eager to participate in the production as (Co-Executive producer) so that the real story of my mom comes alive to the people of South Africa and the world.”

Script

The biopic, which is written and directed by Edward W. Shwa, will be filmed on location in Cape Town and also Johannesburg.

It is thus set to hit theatres next year.

“With Brenda, writer-director Edward W Shaw is doing a remarkable job. He has created a totally relatable story that is both fresh and new,” Showbizbee said in a statement.

“The screenplay is surprising and precise, a warm human story. It is our good fortune to be working with a great team. We are confident the public will embrace Brenda.”

In the film, Brenda’s journey from Langa, Cape Town, to Soweto, Johannesburg will be followed.
