G Money is set to join the UK-based online station Robbo Ranx Radio, with negotiations currently in advanced stages.

Founded in 2014 by the acclaimed DJ Roger Robinson, also known as Robbo Ranx, the station specializes in Caribbean music and culture. Robbo Ranx, after a successful 12-year stint at BBC Radio 1Xtra where he earned multiple Sony Radio Awards, launched his own online radio network to focus on these vibrant sounds.

Robbo Ranx Radio announced via social media that discussions to bring G Money on board are nearing completion. “Kenya, we’re in talks with your ambassador G Money … his agent thinks we could do the deal before deadline day,” the station said.

G Money, the popular DJ and radio presenter, expressed his excitement about the new opportunity. Posting a photo from the studio, he commented, “What a nice studio. You should see the floor! Shhhh.”

G Money left Homeboyz Radio in June after a 16-year tenure during which he played a pivotal role in establishing and growing the station. In a previous interview, he mentioned that his move to Kenya in 2008 was facilitated by DJ John of Homeboyz Radio, and his initial role was to help set up the station.

“I had been on the BBC 1Xtra show for about six years, and, as fate would have it, I met John in London who mentioned he was starting a radio station,” G Money recalled during an episode of the Banter Box podcast. Instead, he became a presenter and one of the most influential figures at the station and in Kenya’s dancehall scene.

G Money’s final show at Homeboyz Radio was scheduled for June 20. Reflecting on his long career there, he shared, “I have been doing radio at Homeboyz Radio for 6,066 days. I have done the morning show for like 16 years. I think it’s time for a mutual revamp.”

He continued, “I feel it’s a good time for the station to adapt to the current financial and media landscape, reinvest in talent, and refresh. It’s time for me to acknowledge that the kid who wanted to do radio all those years ago has been able to live that dream for 30 years.”

Before moving to Kenya, G Money was cautioned by friends against making the move. However, his grandmother encouraged him to take the chance, saying he should visit places she never got to see. Inspired by her advice, G Money decided that if things didn’t work out in Kenya, he would return home and explore other opportunities.

G Money wasn’t merely a presenter; he was the essence of Homeboyz Radio. His charismatic presence, distinctive voice, and profound musical expertise made him a favorite among listeners. His show, “The GMITM Show” (G Money in the Morning), became a staple for many Kenyans, seamlessly blending music, humor, and engaging discussions on current affairs.

Interestingly, G Money’s initial role at Homeboyz Radio was not intended to be on-air. He came to Kenya to assist DJ John in setting up the station after they met in London. “[Quote about meeting DJ John and Homeboyz Radio startup] Life, however, had other plans,” G Money shared on a recent episode of the Banter Box podcast.

He transitioned from a setup consultant to a prominent presenter, becoming a key figure at the station and in Kenya’s dancehall scene. G Money’s final show at Homeboyz Radio will air on June 20th.

Reflecting on his long journey, G Money acknowledged the need for change. “That’s 6,066 days on Homeboyz Radio, and 16 years doing the morning show,” he stated. “The station must adapt to the evolving media landscape, making it an ideal time to reinvest in talent and introduce new energy. It’s also a moment for me to reflect on a 30-year radio career that began with a childhood dream.”

Expressing gratitude for his extraordinary journey, G Money said, “Radio has always been my passion. I’ve been lucky enough to live this dream not just in Kenya, but in Jamaica, America, the Netherlands, Trinidad, Ghana, and Uganda. It has been an amazing ride.”

G Money has yet to announce his next steps.
