Police instructed to cordon off Kawangware 56 from Azimio Convoy

The Azimio Convoy is said to be on the way to Kawangware which will be its first stop with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga set to address the masses there. However, this plan has been frustrated by the presence of police who have been instructed to stop him from getting there.

Today’s Maandamano has taken off to a slow start and there is an overwhelming police presence in regions of the city considered to be pro-Azimio strongholds.

#Maandamano: Police in Kisumu overwhelmed by protesters

Police in Kisumu were overwhelmed by protesters this afternoon. This followed some scuffles in which they arrested and confiscated bodaboda riders and their motorcycles respectively.

In other news, Deputy President Gachagua has finally broken his silence and stated that Kenya has lost 2 billion shillings already due to the ongoing mass actions. He had previously refused to speak to the media who were camped outside his office premises waiting for a word from the usually outspoken leader.

Whether or not his statements are factual waits to be seen but it makes sense given the extent of the seemingly nationwide protests and the fact that normal business operations have ground to a halt as most businessmen are wary of their wares being damaged and most employees elected to stay away from the CBD and other affected areas.
