Mogadishu City FC Apologizes After Fans Disrespect Kenyan Flag

Mogadishu, Somalia — Mogadishu City Football Club has issued a formal apology to the Government and People of Kenya after its supporters were filmed disrespecting the Kenyan national flag during a CAF Champions League first-leg clash against Kenya Police FC on September 20, 2025.

Strong Condemnation

In a statement released after the incident, the Somali club condemned the act, calling it “unacceptable in football or any platform of unity and sportsmanship.”

The club distanced itself from the behavior, stressing that such conduct does not reflect its values or the spirit of the game.

Call for Respect and Discipline

Mogadishu City FC further declared its support for any disciplinary measures the Kenyan authorities may deem necessary.

The club also used the moment to send a wider message, urging its supporters—especially the youth— to respect all nations, their flags, and their people, emphasizing that football should be a unifying force rather than a source of division.
