ODM Sycophant Nuru Okanga Says He Doesn’t Know Why People Are Protesting

Opposition mouthpiece Nuru Okanga has come forward in a recent interview to ask protestors to give President Ruto time to turn things around.

Mimi naelewa katiba yetu ya Kenya maandamano iko ndani. But inategemea mnaandamia nini. Hawa vijana walisema hawataki Finance Bill, na Ruto akatupilia mbali. Ata CS waliweka mtu wa 32 years hapo ndani. Sasa sijui hawa vijana wanaandamia nini

The appointment of some ODM members to the Cabinet appears to have tempered anger in some people as that is what they wanted from the negotiations: shared power between the government and opposition. We will continue to see whether this maandamano trend ever subsides or whether this is now just a part of our weekly routine. For the full interview, watch below:

Okanga, a student at Mwangaza Secondary School in Kayole, denied three counts leveled against him before Milimani Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi.

According to the prosecution, between June 7 and 10, 2024, Okanga unlawfully published false, defamatory, and threatening information online using the TikTok account @ribanews and siasa.tv.ke.backup. The posts were alleged to have been aimed at causing fear, panic, and damaging the reputation of the country’s executive leadership.

Prosecutors further stated that these actions violated the terms of the license issued to Riba News.

In defense, lawyer Shadrack Wambui requested the court to grant Okanga reasonable bail terms, emphasizing his client’s financial dependency on sponsors for school fees and his family responsibilities, including a wife and child currently hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Wambui highlighted that Okanga had been in custody since his arrest on June 11, 2024, and urged the court to consider his status as a frequent court user when setting bail.

State prosecutor James Gachoka did not oppose the bail application.

After considering the defense’s plea, Magistrate Ochoi granted Okanga the option of a cash bail of Sh 100,000 or an alternative bond of Sh 200,000, with one contact person.

The case was scheduled for mention on July 3, 2024, for further directions.

Nuru Okanga Charged With Publishing False Information About President Ruto

Nuru Okanga, a staunch supporter of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga, was charged on Thursday, November 30, 2023, with publishing false information about President William Ruto. Okanga, who appeared before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution alleges that Okanga published a controversial video about President Ruto on his YouTube channel, Riba News@ribanews. The charge sheet states that Okanga intentionally published false statements on November 20, 2023, aimed at tarnishing the President’s reputation.

The die hard Azimio supporter urged the court to release him on bail, promising to adhere to any conditions imposed. The magistrate set bail at Ksh10,000.

Okanga’s arrest and prosecution stem from a recommendation by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) following his apprehension by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Wednesday.

Okanga has been in the spotlight since the release of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results last week. The vocal political activist, who is vying for the Kholera ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat, was among the candidates who took the KCPE exams, and many Kenyans were eager to learn his performance.

Okanga has remained evasive about his KCPE results, leading some netizens to suspect that he may not have performed as well as he had led them to believe.
